Liu Jidian panda
Liu Jidian is an accomplished master of animal painting and figure painting in the history of modern Chinese art, and a master of giant panda painting.
Liu Jidian (October 3, 1918 - November 5, 1983), a native of Tianjin, was an outstanding Chinese painter, a master of comic book art, and the founder of New China comic strips.
Liu Jidian is a director of the Chinese Artists Association, vice president of the Beijing Gongbi Figure Painting Research Association, and vice president of the Beijing Flower and Bird Painting Research Association. His paintings cover a wide range of subjects and exquisite techniques, especially the achievements of gongbi figure painting and freehand animal painting. Most of his works of birds and animals are full of auspicious, harmonious and tranquil atmosphere, which is unique in the modern Chinese painting world.
Liu Jidian's pandas are sitting, lying or standing, walking or perching, frolicking or foraging, self-forming, delicate and cute, vivid and interesting. He insisted on using pen and ink modeling, grasping the panda shape between "similar and unlike", and endowed it with personalized personality characteristics.
Liu Jidian uses the big white and big black of brush and ink to express the big white and big black of the panda's visual fur, and the brush and ink in the painting are both dark and dark, and the color and ink echo, and a few brushstrokes make the giant panda vividly present in front of the viewer, vivid and expressive, forming a unique panda atmosphere, with vivid artistic appeal.
When depicting animals, Liu Jidian has a unique skill - splitting the brush and tearing hair, which is developed from a special painting technique created by his father Liu Kuiling, that is, the combination of rendering and hair tearing, which is the originality of Chinese painting techniques. This technique makes the hair of the animals he paints realistic.
Throughout his life, Liu Jidian painted many giant pandas in different postures, and these works not only show his superb painting skills, but also reflect his deep affection for the giant panda, a national treasure.
Liu Jidian's giant panda paintings are deeply loved and sought after by people, and have had a positive impact on later generations of painters. His paintings not only have artistic value, but also become an important part of giant panda culture.
