On October 5, the China Seed Association's 2024 search for high-yield corn varieties entered Hebi, Henan Province, and conducted on-the-spot production testing of the "Yudan 883" field of "Hubei Kangnong Seed Industry Co., Ltd." Professor Dong Zhiqiang from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Zhang Zhanhui, researcher from Henan Agricultural University, researcher Tang Haojun, chief expert of Hubei Agricultural Technology Extension Center, and other representatives of the expert group participated in the on-site production testing activities, and hundreds of representatives from core dealers from all over the country witnessed together.
On October 5, experts from the yield measurement group of China Seed Association conducted on-site grain direct harvest and on-site yield measurement of the planting field of Yudan 883 (Liuzhai Village, Juqiao Town, Qibin District, Hebi City) of Hubei Kangnong Seed Industry. The measured results are as follows: the average yield per mu of Yudan 883 is 1217.84 kg, the grain moisture content is 23.44%, and the yield per mu is 1082.85 kg.
Professor Dong Zhiqiang of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences affirmed this achievement: under the conditions of severe meteorological stress this year, Yudan 883 can still achieve a yield of more than 1,000 kilograms, and the variety performance is very good.
Researcher Tang Haojun, chief expert of Hubei Provincial Agricultural Technology Extension Center, spoke highly of the dense planting tolerance and lodging resistance characteristics of Kangnong Yudan 883 variety: "As a member of Hubei Agricultural Technology Extension Center, it is an honor to witness Yudan 883 achieve a high yield of 1082.85 kg per mu. Next year, we plan to increase the promotion of this variety, and help farmers increase grain production and achieve higher economic benefits through the organic combination of preferred varieties and advanced planting technology. ”
Zhang Zhanhui, a researcher at Henan Agricultural University, introduced on the spot: Yudan 883 is a machine-harvested variety approved by Henan Agricultural University in 2023, and its biggest feature is that it is early and high-yielding, which is very suitable for mechanized harvesting. Today, we witnessed Yudan 883 achieve a yield of 1082.85 kilograms per mu, which undoubtedly makes it an ideal choice for large grain growers.
It is understood that the on-site yield measurement expert group strictly follows the "Methods and Standards for Corn High-yield and Ultra-high-yield Field Yield Measurement and Acceptance" jointly formulated by the Corn Expert Guidance Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the National Corn Cultivation Group. In the 50 acres of demonstration field, 10 acres were randomly selected, and the grains were directly harvested by 5-point sampling and slicing, and the on-site group measurement was carried out. The yield per mu was calculated according to the fresh grain weight and grain moisture content (the standard moisture content of corn grains was calculated at 14%). According to the measured yield (kg/mu) = fresh grain weight (kg/mu), × seed yield (%)× [1-fresh grain moisture content (%)] ÷ (1-14%).
In order to scientifically guide farmers to select seeds and accelerate the promotion process of high-yield corn varieties, the Corn Branch of China Seed Association has actively carried out activities to find high-yield corn varieties in major corn producing areas across the country since 2018. In the future, Hubei Kangnong Seed Industry will continue to resolutely implement the policy requirements of the No. 1 Central Document in 2024 on "solidly promoting a new round of 100 billion catties of grain production capacity improvement action" under the support and guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, China Seed Association and other industry authorities, and earnestly shoulder the major responsibility of ensuring food security.
