When Song Shixiong was in his second year of junior high school, he happened to hear the football team's game commentary on the radio on the playground, and the commentator at that time was Zhang Zhi.
Since then, Song Shixiong has developed a deep interest in commentary.
Staying in front of the radio every day and looking forward to Zhang Zhi's explanation on time, and will repeatedly recite Zhang Zhi's commentary, deliberately imitating Zhang Zhi's speech speed and voice, and can't really distinguish the voices of the two without listening carefully.

In 1957, Song Shixiong was preparing to apply for the Chinese Department of Peking University, but he contracted tuberculosis on the eve of the college entrance examination and was unable to take the college entrance examination. In desperation, Song Shixiong could only participate in the work, but in his heart, he still couldn't let go of the sports commentary.
So he recorded a recording of basketball commentary and sent it to Zhang Zhi, and was approved by Zhang Zhi.
Under Zhang Zhi's recommendation, Song Shixiong was exceptionally admitted to China Central Radio and Television Station and started his career as a CCTV "celebrity".
"Miserable" in old age
In 2000, Song Shixiong officially retired from CCTV.
In his decades of career, Song Shixiong has served as a commentator for more than 2,000 games, large and small, and his passionate and fast-paced commentary style has made Song Shixiong's commentary once the "mainstream voice" of Chinese sports.
After retiring, Song Shixiong has been living a low-key life.
Until 2008, Song Shixiong was invited to participate in the broadcast of the Beijing Olympic Games, during which Song Shixiong served as the broadcaster of the women's volleyball and table tennis matches, and the familiar voice brought the audience back to the 80s.
In 2021, Song Shixiong commented on the Chinese women's volleyball team at the Tokyo Olympics. In 2024, at the Paris Olympics, Song Shixiong will cheer for Chinese Olympic athletes through video.
After marrying his wife Zhong Rui, they gave birth to a son and a daughter.
Under the education of the husband and wife, the children are very good.
