The Chicago Bulls selected Rose from the University of Memphis as the No. 1 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, and the Chicago native remains the youngest player in league history to earn the Most Valuable Player, a title he earned in 2011 at the age of 22.

After leaving the Bulls, Rose played for the Knicks, Cavaliers, Timberwolves, and Pistons before signing with the Grizzlies. The Athletic reported earlier this week that the Grizzlies cut Rose, but it was Rose who offered to terminate his contract.

"The next chapter is about chasing my dreams and sharing my growth. I believe that real success comes from being who you were meant to be, and I want to show the world who I am beyond basketball," Ross said in a statement to The Athletic.

In his third season, Rose started 81 games, averaging 25.0 points and 7.7 assists per game, and led the Bulls to a NBA-best 62-20 regular season record and won the regular season MVP.

Rose played in 723 regular season games in his career, averaging 17.4 points and 5.2 assists per game.
