In 1908, Yang Sen entered the Sichuan Army Crash School, where he was classmates with Liu Xiang, Tang Shizun, Pan Wenhua and others. These people became important figures who influenced Sichuan for nearly 50 years, and they showed their own style on different battlefields. Heroic courage in the battle of Songhu
In 1937, under the influence of various factors, Chiang Kai-shek finally decided to temporarily abandon the strategy of fighting outside the country and first at home to concentrate on dealing with the Japan invaders, and the Sichuan army located in the southwest actively responded to the war of resistance, and Liu Xiang issued a statement that the Sichuan army was willing to go out of Sichuan to fight the war and go to the country together. At the end of 1937, the Battle of Songhu broke out, and Chiang Kai-shek mobilized heavy troops to gather in the East. As the vanguard of the Sichuan Army's War of Resistance against Sichuan, Yang Sen led the Sichuan Army to quickly arrive at the battlefield and launched a fierce battle with the Japanese army. In the battle, Yang Sen took the lead and personally commanded the troops to charge.
At this time, there was a huge disparity in the strength of the Chinese and Japanese armies, and the Japanese army used powerful firepower to bomb the Chinese army, and only 3,000 people remained in the 8,000-strong team of Yang Sen's department in a battle. Yang Sen soon understood that under such circumstances, fighting with the Japanese army in the past would undoubtedly be sending him to death, and he took advantage of the bravery and flexibility of the Sichuan soldiers to organize small units to carry out surprise attacks and night attacks on the Japanese army on many occasions, successfully disrupting the Japanese army's position and becoming a rare unit with victorious achievements.
A force capable of fighting tough battles
Yang Sen's Twentieth Army stood firm after the Battle of Songhu, but it was still more difficult for Yang Sen and his Sichuan Corps. Yang Sen's troops suffered heavy casualties in the Battle of Songhu, but the troops still had to continue to fight and had to be replenished. Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist Government could not count on it, and everything had to be done by itself. Yang Sen had previously established a military school called Luzhou Jiangwutang, which had cultivated a large number of new-style military talents, and this military school was specifically designed to serve Yang Sen's troops.
