On September 6, 2024, SpaceX CEO Elon · Musk announced that "Starlink satellites will account for about two-thirds of all active satellites orbiting Earth." This means that in terms of numbers, Elon · Musk now controls two-thirds of all active satellites.
SpaceX launched its Starlink satellite for the first time in May 2019 and has launched a large number of Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit, with an average of three satellites per day.
As of September 6, 2024, there are 10,345 active satellites in Earth's space, of which 6,370, or 62%, are from Starlink satellites, according to satellite tracking service CelesTrak. Starlink's rival, United Kingdom startup OneWeb, meanwhile, has only 631 satellites in service.

On September 6, 2024, 21 Starlink satellites were launched on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The launch marks the 7,000th Starlink satellite to be included in the launch.
