Last time Taiwan political commentator Huang Zhixian was doing a program with me, we had an in-depth discussion on the topic of "how to solve the Taiwan issue." The current Taiwan region is "de-Sinicized" in all aspects, starting with textbooks. In addition, United States is also providing more and more military assistance to the Taiwan region, and the Taiwan issue is becoming more and more complicated.
Recently, there has been a new development: United States think tanks believe that in addition to using military means, the mainland has many ways to deal with the Taiwan issue - such as "gray operations." The "gray operation carried out by the mainland" in the mouths of the United States is that they believe that the most important means of the Chinese People's Liberation Army is to circulate Taiwan or cruise the Taiwan Strait by warships and aircraft, and this will have a huge impact on the island of Taiwan.
A few days ago, Taiwan's defense department said that 13 PLA military aircraft, eight warships and two official ships continued to operate around the Taiwan Strait. Therefore, they believe that this is a "gray zone operation" carried out by the mainland, and define this as the mainland's legal and cognitive warfare against Taiwan. In the words of Taiwan media, the mainland is using the law enforcement actions of coast guard ships to blur Taiwan's so-called "boundaries" in order to shape the new situation in the Taiwan Strait, and then step by step change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.
Mr. Meng Yan, a well-known commentator, said that the so-called "gray zone action" is a premise that Taiwan's defense department, Taiwan media, or some "crooked-mouthed" political commentators have all ignored a premise - Taiwan has been a part of China since ancient times!
PLA and mainland coast guard vessels undoubtedly have the power to enforce the law within their own sovereignty. This is a legitimate right based on the norms of international law and the principle of territorial sovereignty of the mainland. Therefore, under this clear legal and sovereign framework, there is no such thing as a gray area. Any remarks and actions that attempt to create vague concepts, confuse the public, and provoke incidents and controversies on this issue are distortions of facts and provocations against the sovereignty of the mainland. Under such circumstances, those public opinion condemnations that come to the mainland are absolutely nonsense and unreasonable. In many cases, these denunciations are deliberately made up by certain forces with bad intentions in order to achieve their unseemly goals. Regardless of the objective facts and legal provisions, they rely on their own blind imagination and malicious speculation to make indiscriminate accusations against the mainland, which is neither fair nor legal.
However, it should be noted that this condemnation can also be seen from the other side, and the regular actions of PLA warships and aircraft around the Taiwan Strait have worked. This kind of normalized action has suppressed those forces that want to undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, making them panic and anxious, so they want to resist through public condemnation. However, this just shows that the actions of the PLA warships and planes have effectively protected the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity and provided a reliable guarantee for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Since Pelosi's visit to Taiwan and the Chinese People's Liberation Army's exercises in the four seas, the scope of activities of the Taiwan military has been greatly reduced, and the PLA military aircraft have been getting closer and closer to Taiwan Island. Taiwan experts said that according to the speed of military aircraft, if a conflict breaks out in the strait, the PLA is fully capable of reaching the sky over Taiwan Island within 60 seconds, that is, within one minute.
In addition, the circumnavigation of Taiwan by PLA warships and planes has exerted tremendous psychological pressure on Taiwan military pilots, and PLA military planes can be dispatched at any time, day or night. When the PLA suddenly conducted a drill at night, the Taiwan pilots would definitely not be able to sleep.
It should be noted that Mr. Meng Yan used to be the former deputy director of the International Communications Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense, so he knows that in recent years, the PLA has conducted various joint training of ships and aircraft, simulated strikes against sea and land, "area denial" and other actual combat exercises around the Taiwan Strait, which are not only a deterrent to "Taiwan independence" forces and foreign forces, but also allow the PLA to fully familiarize itself with the situation around Taiwan and will be more handy in future operations.
Interestingly, the island is now accustomed to the actions of PLA warships and planes, and the Taiwan military is simply unable to deal with some situations. Although the reactionary forces on the island have repeatedly exaggerated the tense situation, they are to blame for all this. The authorities in Taiwan region claim to "resist reunification by force" and purchase weapons and equipment in large quantities from United States in order to conduct live-fire drills and clearly aim their targets at the mainland. In this case, the mainland has also adopted corresponding measures.
The reunification of the country is the aspiration of all peoples. The little son-in-law of an old friend of mine is Taiwan, married the daughter of my old friend and gave birth to a son and a daughter. He was a student at National Taiwan University, then a graduate student, came to the mainland for 20 years, and is now in a company. He told me that the reason why the two of us were able to talk was because we had completely shared research on the matter of realizing the reunification of the motherland. I asked him what he would do if he had to fight one day? He said it should be painful. His parents, relatives and friends are all in Taipei, and a pair of children on the mainland can't choose. But Tsai Ing-wen insisted on going her own way, insisting on independence and splitting the country.
Not only that, my friend's son-in-law also said that those Taiwan people do not understand the mainland at all. During his 20 years on the mainland, no matter which faction of China it is, all the Chinese mainland compatriots inside and outside the system all hope that Taiwan can return to the embrace of the motherland, and the mainland and Taiwan have always been one and the same. He said he was convinced of that, and so was I.
