The China Earthquake Network officially determined that at 7:35 today, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in the sea area of Hualien County, Taiwan (23.74 degrees north latitude, 121.95 degrees east longitude), with a depth of 16 kilometers.
The epicenter was located in the sea near Hualien County, about 37 kilometers from Taiwan Island. The earthquake caused a strong tremor in Taiwan, and the obvious shaking was felt in many places in Taiwan. Subways and trains in many places once ran slowly. The Taipei MRT has been slow to patrol the track after the earthquake and has now resumed normal operation.
The tremors were clearly felt in the coastal areas of Fujian and Guangdong. The China Earthquake Early Warning Network released the early warning information of the earthquake, and Fujian netizens received the early warning notice in real time through the WeChat mini program.
According to CCTV News at about 10 o'clock this morning, the latest casualty news has not yet been received.
According to the report of the Earthquake Monitoring and Reporting Center of the Taiwan Meteorological Department, after a strong earthquake with a scale of 6.1 that was felt in Taiwan off the coast of Hualien this morning, seven aftershocks have occurred, with a scale of between 3.8 and 4.8.
Although the center of the earthquake is quite close to the aftershock distribution area, it is preliminarily judged that the aftershock energy of the "4·3 Hualien strong earthquake" has been released to a certain extent, so today's earthquake is not classified as an aftershock of the "4·3 Hualien strong earthquake".
According to observations, since eastern Taiwan is an earthquake-prone area, it cannot be ruled out that there may still be a magnitude 5.5 earthquake near the epicenter in the next 3 days.
At 17:06 yesterday, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Yilan County in eastern Taiwan. (Related reports: 5.4 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan, tremors are felt in many places)
