After the United States fanned the gloomy wind, it again "emboldened" the DPP authorities, and Lai Qingde once again clamored that "the two sides of the strait are not subordinate to each other." However, the situation on the island was not good.
Since the "vicious collision with a ship in Kinmen on 14 · February" was resolved, cross-strait relations have eased slightly, but in the past two days, United States has begun to do things again. It is reported that the United States administration recently issued a memorandum saying that Biden has authorized United States Trade Representative Tai Qi to carry out follow-up work with the United States on the entry into force of the first phase of the agreement in accordance with the so-called "US-Taiwan 21st Century Trade Initiative Phase I Agreement Implementation Act".
This includes the submission of an implementation report to Congress, which, if approved by the relevant congressional committees, can submit a certification report on the entry into force of the Phase 1 agreement, which means that the so-called "US-Taiwan 21st Century Trade Initiative" Phase 1 agreement will officially enter into force.
This process takes at least 30 days, and the certification report needs to wait another 30 days after it is submitted before it can take effect. Dai Qi also publicly stated on the same day that the agreement was to deepen economic and trade relations between the United States and Taiwan. The so-called "US-Taiwan 21st Century Trade Initiative" phase 1 agreement was signed in June last year, which involves a number of issues such as administration, legal system, and service industries.
On the surface, this agreement is United States to strengthen economic and trade cooperation with the Taiwan region, but in fact, it is United States forcibly promoting official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan, and on the contrary, it has given "Taiwan independence elements" more confidence to provoke the mainland, in order to undermine cross-strait relations and hollow out the "one-China principle."
Not only that, the cooperation between United States and the Taiwan authorities has always been to take advantage of the relationship, including the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides, and the interests of United States have always been given priority. For the United States, Taiwan is nothing more than a pawn and an "ATM." However, the Taiwan authorities have always been unable to recognize the status quo.
Not only is the use of United States sweet, but it is also becoming more and more floating. In the past two days, Lai Ching-te once again sold the so-called "two-state theory" while attending the ceremony of promoting Taiwan military officers to generals; in his speech, Lai Ching-te not only openly clamored that "the two sides of the strait are not subordinate to each other," but also openly referred to the Taiwan region as a "country."
The last time Lai Qingde sold off the "two-state theory" was in his inaugural speech, and as a result, the PLA once again launched a large-scale military exercise encircling Taiwan, and this time Lai Qingde openly made erroneous and negative remarks on the cross-strait issue, obviously because the United States has been constantly sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" recently.
This time, Lai Qingde openly challenged the "one-China principle," and the mainland is bound to respond accordingly. It is worth mentioning that at this juncture, a bad situation was also found on the island. In the past two days, a number of Taiwan media have discovered that the official website of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council has added a new column entitled "Punishing 'Taiwan Independence' Diehards According to Law."
The column contains five major sections, including the list of "Taiwan independence diehards," the relevant statements made by the spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, "legal documents," "clues and crimes of Taiwan independence diehards listed in the report list," and "reports of new Taiwan independence diehards who have committed serious crimes." In addition, the column also provides a mailbox for reporting "Taiwan independence diehards."
In the list of "Taiwan independence diehards," the names of Xiao Meiqin, Su Zhenchang, Wu Zhaoxie, and others are impressively listed. Not only that, but the font of the column has also been enlarged and bold, and the word "Taiwan independence" has also been specially selected in green, while the rest is in a big red font.
In addition to the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, China's Ministry of Public Security has also added this column. Obviously, this move by the mainland is to encourage the people to actively report "Taiwan independence elements" and intensify the crackdown on "Taiwan independence," and at the same time, it is also a warning to the DPP. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is also very dissatisfied with this, and its spokeswoman Han Ying claimed that this is a "malicious measure" that will only undermine the positive development of cross-strait relations.
The more angry the DPP is, the more it can actually reflect their weakness. In June this year, after the mainland issued a new "document on cracking down on independence," there was a law to follow in punishing "Taiwan independence elements" in the future, and this also caused quite a stir on the island. This time, the mainland has added a special column on its official website to further promote the pace of "opposing independence and promoting reunification."
This also shows that the more provocative the Taiwan authorities become, the more tough the mainland's means of retaliating will be, and if Lai Ching-te and others continue to be obsessed, they will only cause even greater trouble to themselves.
