Carlisle: It's hard to be a good player without shooting right now

Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle spoke in an interview about the shift in NBA style of play in his coaching career.

"Coming here from Detroit, it's two different teams, and then going to Dallas — the Mavericks are a very different team than the teams I've coached before. This is a team that pays more attention to outside projection. So it was an incredible experience that taught me how to work with a team like that. The game has changed a lot in the last 13 years, especially in the last five years. Because of the pace of the game, the skill level, the three-pointer, everything. In the two years there, we all set consecutive all-time records for offensive efficiency, but last season the Nets broke it again. These records will continue to be refreshed because of the current level of technology. ”

"There have been so many changes in the game, and the shooting technique is incredibly important now. If you can't shoot, it's hard to be a great player in the game right now. The next chapter in NBA basketball will be when centers shoot three-pointers, break through, and create chances. Players like [Kristabs] Porzingis are already doing that, and players like Anthony Davis are already doing it. We have Sabonis (Domantas) who is an organizational interior and is training for his three-pointers. This will create many opportunities for any player in the league. ”
