In her view, ancient clothing is not the same as second-hand clothing, but something that really occupies a place in the history of fashion, but now it is no longer produced. Regardless of the fabrics used, the details of the cut, and even the use of these costumes, they are the epitome of an entire era of that year.
In order to better display and place these beloved objects, Samantha deliberately used the open space under the second staircase to make a wardrobe. Brass metal carved dressing mirrors, tengzhu woven screens, quaint humanoid hangers... Although the space is not large, she is carefully arranged.
In Shanghai, she cherishes the local antique shops. "There is a shop on Wuyuan Road that has a lot of 1920s Gatsby style clothes. Wearing out the door is certainly pompous, but the hostess often organizes retro balls with different themes. Like any cultural circle, the ancient circle has its own culture and community. The frequent vintage balls are one of the ways lovers socialize. Before the age of 30, Samantha went almost every month, but as she got older, she was gradually changing her style.
Samantha has dozens of Chinese retro qipao, many people think that the qipao is too picky occasion, but she feels that the qipao can not be worn except for sports, climbing can not be worn, other times can be! She even wears canvas shoes with cheongsam, constantly experimenting with her own mix-and-match styles. "Once the rules of dressing become formulas, they will inevitably converge. Dressing without a fixed formula is fun. ”
COSMO: As a fashion designer, what attracts you to gudai in terms of design?
Samantha: I love that when there was no assembly line production, every piece of clothing in the French fashion house was three-dimensional cut. At that time, the designer would wear the cloth directly on the model to stitch and show the guests the dynamics. The costume that comes out of this fits, like the second layer of human skin.
COSMO: What's the most shareworthy cusp of recently?
Samantha: Recently, I received a piece of Chinese embroidered gown with a very fine red and white color match, which cost more than 5,000 yuan, but it was not bought and worn, but only for collection and appreciation. Like this kind of old silk, the material will become brittle over time, if you want it to live longer, try not to wear it. But it can still work, whether it is the way it is cut or the pattern color matching, it can give me a lot of design inspiration.
