This case is a villa full of nature on the island of Menorca, with an area of 210 square meters. The building consists of four identical rectangular volumes, which descend a steep staircase. The villas are finished with local limestone, earthenware vaulted ceilings, sand-coloured masonry and concrete, all blended in soft earth tones.
Built over two floors, the house consists of 3 spacious bedrooms, a double height living room, a spacious outdoor terrace and a swimming pool. Each bedroom has its own private terrace with views across the surrounding lush landscape and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The daytime area is an open plan space with a kitchen on one side and a gazebo on the other for alfresco dining and lounging. Functions such as indoor and outdoor living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens are duplicated, reinforcing the ambiguity between indoor and outdoor. Large full-height sliding doors embedded in aluminium frames allow an abundance of natural light to illuminate the interior, blending in with the landscape.
Strategically placed horizontal windows enhance the sense of sight and make people aware of the pace of time and the change of light. The use of matte finishes, original textures, high ceilings with exposed concrete beams and ceramic vaulted ceilings create a coherence of spaces of different proportions. Wooden doors and cabinets add a touch of warmth to an otherwise calming tone.
The exterior walls are made of light-colored solid glazed bricks to ensure a stable temperature in mild hot climates. Plenty of sheltered, sunny outdoor spaces allow users to gather and rest on sunny days while protecting from direct sunlight.
The bathroom combines hard and soft materials, such as white tiles with terracotta-coloured joints and wooden cabinetry, echoing the use of homogeneous materials throughout the house.
