The Second Garrison Division of the Chengdu Military Region, established in 1985, served as an important national defense task of defending the border and defending the territory of the country during the long-term confrontation between the two countries after the self-defense and counterattack war against Vietnam.
This heroic unit has been praised by its superiors 32 times and has made great contributions during the Sino-Vietnamese confrontation.
However, such a heroic team had an earth-shattering event in 1988.
In the conference room of the shift meeting, Chong Yunxiang, deputy commander of the Second Garrison Division, and Li Zhengxian, political commissar of the Second Garrison Division, lifted the arms of division commander Li Dejin back as if they were escorting prisoners.

1. Holding a gun without permission and threatening the doorman
In January 1988, division commander Li Dejin returned to his home at the grain and oil machinery factory in Kunming for Chinese New Year's Eve, but was stopped by the guard on duty when he arrived at the door.
The doorman is checking his identity like a cannon:
"What's your name? What for? Which building do you live in? Do you have proof of identity? ”
Li Dejin was already hot-tempered, and when he heard that the new doorman didn't even know him, he was immediately angry.
However, the doorman did not realize Li Dejin's anger, and the two men had a fierce argument during what should have been a normal questioning and cross-examination.
Division Commander Li Dejin is a good man who rolled out of the rain of bullets, a man who boiled out of the army, from the commander to the soldiers, who dares to talk to him like this?
What's more, if you let others know that a little doorman dares to quarrel with him, where will he put his face?
With a moment of anger in his heart, Li Dejin pulled out the gun with a swoop, pressed it against the guard's forehead, and said:

It stands to reason that it is already taboo for soldiers to carry guns when they return to their hometowns, and this time Division Commander Li Dejin even put a gun on the head of the guard, which should be a serious violation of discipline or even law.
Unexpectedly, this doorman was not only not afraid, but also reported Li Dejin to the provincial military district.
Fortunately, under the persuasion of the comrades of the provincial military district, the doorman gave up the report and chose to go private.
This incident did not have any impact on Li Dejin, although he acted in a hurry, but after all, he did not make a big mistake. And this little thing should not be a reason for his soldiers to "kidnap" him.
What is it that pushed this division commander into the abyss?
Second, the mysterious phone call of the change of commander
Late one night in mid-November 1988, Liu Zhijun, director of the Political Department of the 2nd Chengdu Garrison Division, was woken up by a strong telephone ringing while he was asleep, and took the phone placed on the bedside in a daze.

The answer was louder, and it seemed very hurried and anxious, Liu Zhijun quickly searched in his mind, and soon realized that it was Lieutenant General Zhao Kun, the political commissar of the Yunnan Provincial Military Region, who called him, so he quickly cleared his throat:
"I'm Liu Zhijun."

If it is the leadership of the military district that has been waiting for their own call, it means that what they have to say may involve the senior leadership of the division headquarters.
After picking up the headphones and microphone, Commander Wang Zuxun's voice came from the opposite side, "Is there anyone else around you?" Let them all get out. ”
Liu Zhijun waved his hand and motioned for the operator on duty to go out.
Commander Wang continued: "I am surrounded by Political Commissar Zhao and Director Yu, and I am not answering your phone in my personal name, but in the name of collective decision-making of the provincial military district. ”

They're going to take him over! Liu Zhijun agreed to give the commander's deployment order.
But he couldn't figure out what happened to Master Li Dejin? Was it because he put a gun to the guard's head on that Chinese New Year's Eve? Is it because that doorman has an unfathomable ability to reach the heavens?
If it weren't for the guards, could it be because of the corruption of Division Commander Li Dejin, and even treason and betrayal of the party?
Liu Zhijun didn't dare to think about it anymore, he just wanted to quickly find a way to carry out the commander's order - in the face of an old superior with a gun, the teacher, how should he control it?

3. Arrest the division commander
In the silent night, the northwest wind came suddenly, and this army stationed on the frontier was destined to usher in an earth-shattering event-
The commander of the 2nd Garrison Division, the head of the unit, the respected division commander Li Dejin, was about to be captured by his men.
"The order of the military region, control Division Commander Li Dejin tomorrow morning."
Liu Zhijun conveyed the order of the provincial military district to deputy division commander Chong Yunxiang, and although the two of them did not know why, they still seriously discussed for a long time how to carry out the arrest of Li Dejin and how to convey instructions to other members of the Standing Committee.
The two of them conspire in the secret room to secretly capture their division commander.

At 7 o'clock in the morning, when it was just dawn, under the arrangement of Liu Zhijun, director of the Political Department, the other members of the Standing Committee, except for division commander Li Dejun, gathered together and held an unusual Standing Committee meeting.
Political Commissar Li Zhengxian asked solemnly: "Lao Liu, think about it again, did you hear it wrong last night?" ”
Liu Zhijun said categorically, "There will be no mistake, the people from the provincial military district should already be on the way, and they will take him away this morning." ”
Liu Zhijun knows the seriousness of the matter, and if he catches it right, he will naturally have nothing to say, but if he catches it wrong, a political commissar with a group of people arrests the division commander, isn't this a rebellion?
The Standing Committee of the Second Garrison Division immediately decided on two sets of plans. The first plan is to arrest at breakfast, and the second plan is to do it after the shift meeting.
At breakfast, Liu Zhijun, Political Commissar Li Zhengxian, and Deputy Division Commander Chong Yunxiang were all unwilling to eat, and they kept watching the door of the canteen, trying to track down which table the division commander Li Dejin went to eat.
Liu Zhijun and his entourage slowed down, chewed and swallowed slowly, waiting for the arrival of Division Commander Li Dejin, but unexpectedly, after all the meals were eaten, the division commander still disappeared.
Could it be that he had known about their arrest for a long time?
Could it be that he was ready to resist a long time ago?
Could it be that he was already holding three guns, ready to break the net?
Fortunately, at the handover meeting, Li Dejin did not miss the appointment.
At 8 o'clock in the morning, as soon as the work horn sounded and the shift meeting was about to begin, the division commander dragged his tired body into the war room.
The shift meeting was completed in accordance with the predetermined procedure, and at the end of the meeting, Political Commissar Li said: "Section chiefs, go back, the Standing Committee members stay for a while, I have something to say." ”
Li Dejin seemed to be a little surprised, Li Zhengxian, the political commissar, wanted to hold a standing committee, why didn't he report to himself in advance? Why don't you know the content of today's Standing Committee?
After the section chiefs left, Political Commissar Li closed the door, and Liu Zhijun and Deputy Division Commander Chong walked quickly to both sides of the division commander according to the pre-arrangement.

In accordance with the orders of the military region, we will control you, and soon the military region will come and take you to Kunming, hoping that you will cooperate and not do anything that is sorry for the officers and men of the whole division. ”

Fourth, the truth is revealed
All the officers and men of the 2nd Garrison Division have been waiting for the results of the investigation of the division commander by the military district. This steely contingent, which was established in 1985, has been praised by superiors 32 times since the self-defense and counterattack against Vietnam, and all this is the result of the efforts of Li Dejin and all the officers and men.
Now that the conscientious division commander has been suddenly arrested, who can understand?
However, what the officers and men of the Second Garrison Division did not know was that this division commander Li Dejin hid many secrets that no one knew.
The first is the economic issue. Li Dejin once embezzled a large amount of public money for gasoline with the logistics minister.
But everyone knows that this is just a trivial matter, and it is a big deal to punish yourself with three cups, at best, it is to circulate criticism and degrade use.
What is really fatal is that he is looking for someone to confess his guilt.
During the period when Li Dejin was still the chief of staff, he and the chief of the communications section went to the lower-level troops on the pretext of inspection.
During this period, Li Dejin, who was full of self-confidence, forcibly took over the steering wheel from the driver's hand and gave the chief of the communications section a package ticket, claiming that his driving skills were very skillful, and his skills were so high that he did not know where to go.
The chief of the communications section thought that it would not be too much of a problem to let the chief of staff get over the car, so he could only agree, and the driver had to sit in the back seat.
No one expected that after Li Dejin got into the car, he stepped on the accelerator suddenly, and the speed was simply soaring.
The driver knew that Li Dejin had a hot temper, and he didn't dare to say anything more in his own identity, so he just silently fastened his seat belt and held the handle tightly with both hands. Unbeknownst to him, it was this act that allowed him to pick up a life.
The communications section chief on the side couldn't help but be a little worried, and reminded Li Dejin to slow down more than once, but he forgot to fasten his seat belt and didn't hold on to the handlebars.
People with a hot temper tend to be very confident, and obviously, Li Dejin is such a person. Not only did he not take the words of the communications section chief to heart, but he continued to slam on the accelerator.
Suddenly, with a bang, the off-road vehicle driven by Li Dejin turned over and fell into the river, and the body was seriously damaged.
The chief of the communications section died on the spot, and both the driver and Li Dejin were seriously injured.
Li Dejin felt frightened, he knew that he had committed a big crime this time, in order to save his position, and in order to be able to escape the trial of the law, he coerced and lured the driver to hide the matter, saying that it was an accident caused by the driver's own carelessness, and the driver did not dare to disobey the will of the chief of staff.
Moreover, if he can save Li Dejin, Li Dejin promised to give him a generous reward.
And if he exposes Li Dejin, he will still be legally responsible. Compare the two, seek advantages and avoid disadvantages.
So he carried the black pot for Li Dejin and squatted in prison for several years. Li Dejin also fulfilled his promise, transferred him back to Henan, and instructed him to be promoted quickly, intending to gag his mouth.

Now, decades later, perhaps even Li Dejin has completely forgotten about it.
But he never expected that during the period of the "million-dollar disarmament," the military region would find out this driver who was rapidly promoted, and thus pulled out the radish and brought out the mud, turning up this dusty but appalling old story.
In the end, Li Dejin was expelled from the party, sentenced by the court to three years in prison, and demoted from the division level to the regimental level.
Three years later, Li Dejin was finally released from prison, but he never had the face to return to the heroic unit of the 2nd Garrison Division - he was ashamed of his comrades.
