Dog days in Shanghai are also too hot. Even at 6 a.m., you can feel the heat coming over you, and the half-minute journey from the drop-off area to the terminal can force your sweat out.
At about 11 o'clock, the plane landed at Kunming Changshui International Airport, walked from the arrival hall to the airport center of the starting station of Metro Line 6, went directly to the terminal Tangzi Lane, and exited the station from Exit F to the outside, feeling the coolness of the spring city.

From here, you can walk 450m to the destination of this trip, the Grand Hyatt Kunming. In addition to Tangzixiang Station of Metro Line 2 and 6, the hotel is only 300m walking distance from Exit B of Dongfeng Square Station of Metro Line 2 and 3.
Grand Hyatt Kunming is the flagship of the Kunming Hang Lung Plaza project, which is designed by KPF, one of the world's leading architectural firms, including office towers, luxury shopping malls, a 331-room Grand Hyatt Kunming and 254 saleable units of Grand Hyatt Kunming residences.

Grand Hyatt Kunming is now scheduled to open its doors on August 6, with exquisite interior design, proper guest rooms, and high-level presentation of 5 dining spaces, which together build the best hotel in Kunming in my opinion, and it is also the ceiling of the domestic Grand Hyatt brand.

arrival
Walking to the hotel drop-off area, there is a water feature in front of the spacious porch made up of several small rainbow-shaped fountains to guide the busy traffic in the future. Directly in the direction of the gate is also an art sculpture called "Milky Way Moon", created by Chinese artist Luan Jiaqi.
Looking up at the canopy in the drop-off area, the LED screen at the top of the canopy changes the soft clouds, which invisibly fits the reputation of Yunnan Province as "the south of colorful clouds". The brass-textured entrance invites guests into the colorful spaces inside.
The hotel's interior design was designed by MQ Studio of PuXuan Hotel (Beijing) and Ruma Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The ground floor arrival lobby features a distinctive arched ceiling, with metal levers and glass lighting weaving the skeleton of the ceiling and walls, inspired by the Yuanyang rice terraces in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan.
▲The design team cleverly hung the "terraces" upside down. One side of the entrance leads to the guest room and dining space, while the other side leads to the meeting and event space, effectively diverting guests
Inside the hall, on one side is a "Glass Cloud", created by Mathieu Lehanneur, the designer of the Paris Olympic torch, which depicts a magical scene of marble rising into glass bubbles.
Near the entrance to the floor-to-ceiling glass, two Lagoons were created by artist Flavie Audi, also from Paris, and present the natural imagery of the lagoon through metallic pigments and plexiglas.
To the left comes to the check-in reception area, where the brass texture in the background is a metaphor for Yunnan's abundant copper mines, and the background lighting is inspired by blooming sesame flowers.
Walking inside, you will find that the sesame flower illumination in the background of the front desk extends from the copper shadow gallery, which is equivalent to the lobby bar. The light and shadow of the inlaid light strip are graceful, and the name of "copper shadow" is worthy of its name.
Two sets of patina sofa seats crisscross vertically, one of which faces the concierge desk in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass, and in one corner there is a cute Yunnan golden snub-nosed monkey artwork endemic to Yunnan.
Behind another set of sofa seats is the artwork "Her Blue Landscape" created by Chinese artist Lin Fanglu inspired by the local tie-dye technique of Yunnan, which looks like a "spring" from a distance, which is cleverly in line with Kunming's reputation as a "spring city".
At the interior design level, the top lighting of the Bronze Shadow Gallery can be regarded as the starting point of the lobby space on the first floor; Functionally, it is equivalent to a lobby bar, with two open interactive bars.
The various sofa seats under the "bronze shadow" are the ideal base for afternoon tea. This season's afternoon tea is themed around peaches, with Peach Opera Cake, Peach Soft Cheesecake and Peach Oolong Milk Cups.

The afternoon tea also replaces the usual scones with Yunnan-style beef patties, and the freshly baked chocolate soufflé is equally refreshing with ice cream. The pastry chef who previously worked at the Grand Hyatt Macau is really profound.

guest room
The hotel has a total of 331 rooms with an area starting from 45m². The house number of the guest room cleverly presents the common patterns of the traditional costumes of ethnic minorities in Yunnan.
This time, I stayed in a corner room, which is a premium room, with an area of 49 m². The interiors are elegant, contemporary, and subtly infused with local Yunnan elements, with design details that will inspire you to explore.
At the entrance, the curvature of the wall is just right to cater to the trays that reflect the traditional rattan weaving skills of the local ethnic minorities in Yunnan, and small objects such as room cards and card holders are placed at hand, and I feel the intimacy of this setting.
The bathroom on the right hand side of the foyer is equipped with a bathtub and has been equipped with Balmain in large bottles according to the Grand Hyatt's standards.
The full-length mirror is located on the right hand side of the porch. At the same time, the mirror is also split in two, becoming the door of the cabinet and the douch, and connected to it is the minibar area with tea sets, cups and capsule coffee machines.
The bedroom space is dominated by logs, which is simple, modern and homely. Floor-to-ceiling 270° windows offer sky-high city views, and the curtains can be opened and closed, and the blades can be adjusted to control the natural light.
The TV is parallel to the combination of "day bed + dining table + single dining table", facing the bed and adjacent to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The two digital photographic artworks on the side were created by The Light Particles from Hong Kong, China, drawing on the diverse beauty of Yunnan's landscapes in different seasons.
The patina of the headboard decorates the sleeping area where tranquility is most needed, and it also echoes the sofa area in the lobby on the ground floor. The metal lighting at the head of the bed is projected to activate the entire bedside background.

The safe is also hidden
One of the most interesting design details in the guest rooms is the animal images that often appear in Yunnan Province. I heard that there are 12 in total, but I didn't find all of them anyway, so please go and explore them by yourself after the hotel officially opens.
▲Actually, not only these two pictures were taken, but the other pictures were too obvious as soon as they were put in, so please allow me to sell them
The 45 sqm Standard Rooms are the largest of all room types in the hotel, and the design details also reflect the essence of Yunnan's local culture, blending traditional features with modern sojourn.
In particular, the image of Yunnan stilted building has been more displayed in this room type, such as the vertical cabinet where the minibar is located, and the rotatable vertical cabinet that stores the safe in the open wardrobe.
The carefully selected artwork also contains clues to the animals, and the rest will be revealed after the official opening of the hotel.

Catering
In addition to the Bronze Gallery, the hotel has four distinctive dining spaces on the fourth and fifth floors of the building, designed by Japan designer firm NAO Taniyama & Associates, who has worked on the interior design of Grand Hyatt Tokyo and Dalian.
Located on the 5th floor, the Pavilion is the hotel's all-day dining restaurant, where the daily breakfast buffet is served. You can taste local flavors such as roasted bait cubes and crispy beef noodles.
For lunch, there is a rich à la carte menu that blends Chinese and Western flavors at very affordable prices. For example, my words are "Chinese stomach", I ordered yellow braised chicken, the dishes are paired with rice, and the price is also friendly to the white-collar workers in the office building next door, and the lunch business of the restaurant will be very good after the official opening.
Dinner is more generous and the atmosphere is more relaxed, so it's perfect for a rich dinner buffet. There is a wide selection of dishes, which can be picked up at the food display station, and special dishes can be delivered at the table.
As a carnivore, I certainly can't miss the freshly grilled lamb chops, fresh oysters and beef that comes with delivery, and there's a brass-like pizza oven that's full of aroma. Returning to the "Chinese stomach", there are Yunnan characteristics of Mengzi small fried meat, freshly roasted suckling pig and white-cut chicken.
In terms of design, the restaurant draws on Yunnan's abundant flower attributes, decorated with several digital collages created by Canada artist David Krovblit, in addition to brightly colored flowers, the images of birds, butterflies and even divers are also incorporate.
The surrounding dining tables against the wall are separated by drapery that resembles a dye in a dye workshop, and the imagery presents the local craftsmanship of Yunnan. The restaurant also features a private dining room surrounded by a sliding screen for a more intimate dining environment.
Next to the Shuo Ting is the Chinese restaurant Yun Fang, which focuses on local Yunnan flavors and Cantonese cuisine. At the entrance of the restaurant, the roast duck oven is already eye-catching, and you can eat the signature fruit wood roast duck of the Hyatt Chinese restaurant!
Walking into the restaurant, all kinds of tea sets, tea cakes and various teapots on the front desk reception table and the various teapots in the display cabinet behind this area set off this area more like a tea culture display space in Yunnan.
The seating in the restaurant is carefully designed to create a different dining scene, with seats in the center of the lobby, booths against the wall, semi-open cubicles and private dining rooms.

At this time, it is the mushroom season in Yunnan, and a cup of fresh and sweet matsutake soup instantly activates the taste buds. The signature roast pigeon has a crispy skin, tender and juicy meat, and a rich lemongrass flavor.
The roast duck was selected for 42 days of Peking stuffed duck, and the body was plump. Duck skin dipped in sugar, melts in the mouth; The duck breast is dipped in garlic, and the spicy garlic further stimulates the aroma of the meat; The duck leg is dipped in a sweet noodle sauce and rolled into the dough with cucumber and shredded green onions.
Descending to the 4th floor, the hotel also has a Japanese-style izakaya-style restaurant. Diners sit around the pillows decorated with patterns common to the traditional costumes of Yunnan's ethnic minorities, waiting for the food to be baked.

The restaurant is also very good value for money, and the most expensive Wagyu skewers are only 68 yuan. Cod, pork belly skewers, eel skewers...... It's really delicious. Towards the end, I was even more amazed by the bowl of tonko ramen, which was almost the same as what I had eaten in Osaka two weeks ago.
After a full meal, the sky in Kunming finally darkened, and it was time to go to the side for a drink. The Elevation Bar has an extensive wine cellar, whisky and a wide selection of gins.

Cocktails are named after the elevation meters of well-known local cities in Yunnan, for example, the image on the left below is Lijiang's altitude of 2466, and the picture on the right is Kunming's altitude of 1996.
I really like the lighting in the bar that is in the same vein as the saucer, as if the whole space is activated by electricity. Artwork from the likes of Australia artist Emma Anna similarly animates and breathes life to the bar.

The Regency Club shares the 9th floor of the building with some guest rooms. Guests staying in Regency Club level rooms and suites can enjoy an even greater dimension of service, such as daily happy hour.
Grand Hyatt Kunming will officially open on August 6. The exquisite design that integrates local elements in an all-round way, the rooms that inspire people to explore, and the high-level food and beverage performance of Hyatt hotels have all created the ceiling of this Kunming hotel and even the entire Grand Hyatt brand in China.
