The tournament is scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 25, 2024, and will be held in a World Cup-style format, with exciting and competitive competitions.
The 2024 League Cup not only showcases the essence of North American football, but is also an important gateway to the prestigious CONCACAF and Caribbean Football Champions Cup. The winner of the CONCACAF and Caribbean Football Champions Cup will qualify for the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup, representing the region on the global stage.
As the tournament progresses, the advancing teams will face off in a single knockout match. The Round of 32 is scheduled for August 7-9 with a total of 16 matches, followed by the Round of 16 on August 12-13, which eventually narrows down the contenders to eight. The quarterfinals are scheduled for August 16-17 and will feature four intense matches to pave the way for the semi-finals on August 20 or 21.
The pinnacle of the tournament, the 2024 League Cup Final and Third Place Match, kicks off on Saturday 25 August and will leave fans hooked. These decisive matches will determine the three clubs that qualify for the 2025 CONCA Caribbean CACAF Champions League.
In order to improve the competitiveness and fairness of the competition, the 2024 League Cup introduces a ranking system and a central privilege for the best performing LIGA MX clubs. Rankings are based on the combined performance of MLS and LIGA MX clubs in the previous 34 regular season games.
In addition, in order to optimise logistical arrangements and ensure balanced competition, participating teams will be divided into three tiers based on their Carabao Cup standings. The tournament is divided into East and West Zones to minimise travel for the teams.
The top LIGA MX clubs will enjoy hub privileges, and the playing venues have been carefully selected to reward their performance. LIGA MX league champions and top club Club America will enjoy hub privileges in California, and Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego will host their inaugural game on August 9.
