I keep about 300 sketches a year, and most of the works that I am not satisfied with are about 1 in 10 of them.
In the past ten years, after three years of special periods of the epidemic, there has been no interruption in sketching in Tibetan areas and Xinjiang. Travels to India and Egypt have left a unique record of vivid images and exotic landscapes.
The practice of "three pens" is more, and some personal characteristics are gradually revealed. Over the years, I have become accustomed to using blunt-tipped sketching tools, preparing for the upcoming studio summer training, using sharp mechanical pencils again, and returning to the "tactile sketching" way of sketching.
Among the 110 sketches selected here, the part of the human body sketch has been deleted for the convenience of online use. Published two years ago, Yu Xiaodong's Sketches spans 49 years and is my most complete sketch publication.
