ISHIHARA: For me, voice acting is an irreplaceable job. Thanks to my voice actor job, I have a lot of fun every day. I really enjoy being a voice actor.
——So what was your chance to enter the voice actor world?
Ishihara: The first time I learned about the existence of voice actors was when I was particularly fond of animation in junior high school. I thought that the animated characters would be able to speak on their own, but after doing some research, I learned that someone was dubbing with the animation, and only then did I know the existence of voice actors. So after that, I went to audition with an interest in voice actors and entered the world of voice actors.
——Miss Ishihara was still a high school student when she debuted as a voice actress, right? How did you separate school time from your voice actor workspace at that time?
Ishihara: At that time, I received a lot of help from the firm, and the work was only carried out after school. In the morning, I experience the feeling of being a student, and in the afternoon, I go to work hard, switching back and forth between high school students during the day and social people in the evening.
Until recently, you worked as a voice actor while you were in college, what was the point of studying for you?
Ishihara: I put in 100% effort, both in school and as a voice actor. However, work is still more important in comparison, so it takes more time for work, and the rest of the time is used to prepare for homework. In college, I was exposed to a lot of things that I was interested in or completely unclear about, and I was constantly trying to make myself a better person.
——Miss Ishihara won the Newcomer Female Voice Actress Award at the Voice Actor Awards in 2013, what is your biggest impression of winning the award?
Ishihara: Because it was a very honorable reward, there was initially such an uneasy idea as "Am I not very good at taking this award?" However, since I have won this award so hard, I feel that I will have to invest more efforts than before in the future, for my own growth and development, and in order to play more impressive roles.
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS AND PLANS FOR SINGERS IN THE FUTURE?
Ishihara: Although I'm not famous now, I still love singing and dancing, so I'll try my best if I get the chance.
——I heard that Miss Ishihara is very good at dancing, so are there any dance moves you conceived in the MVs you have starred in?
Ishihara: There are no dance moves conceived by myself in the MV, but by the choreographer who conceives the dance and then teaches us and memorizes the movements.
If you hadn't worked as a voice actor and singer, what would you be doing now?
Ishihara: If you're not a voice actor, because doing transactional work in a company doesn't quite fit my personality, I'm able to move physically and communicate with others, hmm... It's like a flight attendant.
——What kind of role does Miss Ishihara most like to try in the future?
Ishihara: Most of the previous roles were of young girls who matched me, so I would like to try more adult female characters in the future.
- Which character is the most bothersome character in the anime you've starred in?
Ishihara: The character that bothers me the most is probably Aladdin in "Magic Flute MAGI". Because the characters' past is unknown and the worldview of the work is very complicated, how to express these is particularly difficult, which bothers me a lot. However, after talking with the sound supervisor and the director, everyone built up the world view of "Magic Flute MAGI" and the character of Aladdin. I was impressed by the hard work of playing the role.
- Who is the most satisfying character?
ISHIHARA: It's a tough question, emmmmm... I was impressed by Tanigawa's mandarin in Waiting in The Middle of Summer, and I was very happy with the character.
——This question also wants to ask Miss Ishihara, who starred in "Waiting in the Middle of Summer", but the problem has nothing to do with this work... What do you think of summer?
ISHIHARA: My favorite of the four seasons is summer, because my birthday is August 6th, and I used to be able to travel with my family during the summer vacation, which is a very happy memory. Although I am 24 years old, I am excited by the scorching sunshine or the rising temperatures, and summer is the most energetic season of the year.
--Miss Ishihara has starred in many cute boys, how did she voice these characters as a female voice actress? Is there anything to be aware of?
Ishihara: When I voice boys, I consciously raise my voice more than usual because it's a man. In addition, I would imagine in my head that "boys are probably like this", and sometimes I would substitute myself into the stories written in the script.
--Lori and Shota, which role do you find more interesting?
Ishihara: Although it is very attractive to play Lori and Shota, personally, I have fewer opportunities to voice Shota, and I also like Shota's reaction when she is teased by her older sister, so I am now more looking forward to playing Shota.
——Miss Ishihara's voice in "The Lagrange of Reincarnation" is both cute and varied, is it not the sound supervisor who gave any instructions?
Ishihara: Although I have also received some instructions, in order to make the character more energetic, in fact, in "Lagrange of Reincarnation", I in turn asked the sound supervisor for instructions. Ishihara: I think Kodouzi is very likable to me as a woman, and I think my reaction to being mischievous by everyone is also very cute. So when I was acting, I kept thinking about how to make her more cute.
In "Idol Activity", do you have any thoughts on the mantra of Sonic City Syrah, "La-la-la feels really good"?
Ishihara: Although I don't know exactly what kind of feeling "la la la" is, in my impression, "la la la" represents a mood that cannot be described in words, and I feel very happy and cannot be pressed, so I express it in the way of "la la la".
- You played the cute and mischievous character Ram in Super Dimensional Game: Neptune, do you usually prank your friends?
ISHIHARA: I think... If I had to say it, I was on the side of the "prankster". But not long ago, I played a little prank on my friend, because my friend was late when they agreed to meet, so I sent a photo of where I was now, told the other party that I was here, and then after 5 minutes, I changed places and took pictures to tell the other party that I was over there. Like hide-and-seek, I played the other person.
——Miss Ishihara starred in the anime "Genius Mahjong Girl" as Ryūka Shimizutani, will you play mahjong in reality?
ISHIHARA: Mahjong... I hadn't played once before I came into contact with The Talented Mahjong Girl, and I used this work as an opportunity to try to understand mahjong, but I didn't play mahjong very well, and I basically didn't win. However, this time I came to China, the birthplace of mahjong, and I may try to challenge mahjong again when I go back.
But the rules of Chinese mahjong and Japanese mahjong are completely different.
ISHIHARA: Ah, is that right?!
You once played a Chinese girl named Cui Yifei in Muv-Luv ATE, so have you studied Chinese? What impression do you have of Chinese?
Ishihara: When I received work on Muv-Luv ATE, I happened to be studying Chinese in college, and the Chinese in the lines happened to have been heard and practiced many times in college. My biggest impression of Chinese is that the pronunciation of "Coca-Cola" is very interesting, obviously speaking of a thing, but the pronunciation is so different, I was surprised.
——Will you continue to come to China to participate in activities in the future?
ISHIHARA: This is my second time in China to participate in the event, and this time I am very happy. So far I have hardly met any overseas fans, and I will try to come back to China and have a happy time with Chinese fans.
