Rather than deliberately looking for certain symbols and intentions, we care more that the creation of these small implants, which are differentiated by different ages, can be clearly read. This neutral modernity is also extended to the interior space: we want to complete the function with the simplest volume, and return the fluidity and practicality of the space to the rich exhibitions of the future.

Lushan Town is a small hill, and the top of the hill can overlook the entire Lushan community. As a 2,000-year-old suburban neighborhood community, Lushan has a particularly obvious architectural feature of the era: the town is modeled after Tuscany, the most beautiful scenery in Italy, and takes great care to create a small town feeling that can be easily visited. As a reward for the hope of reaching the summit, the plaza at the top of the hill has three important buildings: the clubhouse, the church, and the Lushan Art Museum. At the same time, it is also a cultural highland, and one of the key points of the renewal of Lushan Town is also the renovation of Lushan Art Museum. The museum hopes to express the positive and vibrant community culture of Lushan in a new and respectful way.

The museum has an exhibition area of 5,000 m2, but in order to fit the scale of the town, the original building adopts a layered approach: three floors above ground and two floors underground. There is a simple place in the renovation design, which only needs to continue the logic of the existing building; There is also the difficulty of grasping the new elements and functions in harmony with the old building and environment.

We want the renewal of the building to be respectful and authentic: to sincerely depict and preserve the existing building, and to choose the right way to build it in a way that reflects the real needs of today. Therefore, we chose to try our best to reduce the changes to the façade of the original building, and carefully increase the area on the premise of optimizing the exhibition flow and solving the inconvenience caused by too many floors of the original building. Although small, all the added volumes are built in a very modern way.

We used steel plates to implant these volumes, and the material creates a thin and light structure with very straight lines, which contrasts strongly with the extensive stone and rough paint buildings of the existing neighborhood.
