From urban "workers" to rural "new farmers"

In Xiaoxin Wharf Village, Huangzhuang Town, Baodi District, Tianjin, Li Chao (left) orders from guests (photo taken on September 2). On the Chaobai River, where the morning light first appeared, Li Chao took the catch of the fisherman for the night and began the day's work. Li Chao is a "post-90s" who runs a farmyard in Xiaoxin Wharf Village, Huangzhuang Town, Baodi District, Tianjin, and "small fish and shrimp stickers" are his family's signature dish, and tourists come to taste it endlessly. Xiaoxin Wharf Village is close to the Chaobai River. In the past, the villagers here lived by fishing and farming, and their income was not high, and many young people flocked to the city to work. Li Chao is no exception, in 2008, he went out of his hometown and became a "hit worker". From restaurant waiters to chefs, from assembly line workers to security guards to salesmen... Over the years he tried various jobs and was always on the move. In 2013, Li Chao, who returned to his hometown to get married, was pleasantly surprised to find that the small village had been renewed. Clear waters and green banks, picturesque rice paddies. Big red lanterns dot the rows of green brick and gray tile farm yards. The Rice Culture Park, Dafan Square, Caoyun Ruins Park and other scenic spots have been completed one after another, and the rural culture has become the "golden signboard" for the development of tourism in Xiaoxin Wharf Village. The revitalization of his hometown gave Li Chao the idea of returning to his hometown to start a business. With the money he had saved from his part-time job in previous years, he started a farmyard with the support of the local government, and soon earned the "first pot of gold". After tasting the sweetness, in 2017, Li Chao was the first to upgrade the farm yard in the village, "the environment is better, there are more and more tourists, and in the high season, the room cannot be booked at all." Li Chao said. The days became more and more prosperous, and Li Chao also became a member of the village committee. He was glad for the choice of that year, and he was also more grateful for the good policies of the state, "It is not enough for me to be rich, I want to be a member of the village committee, with more villagers to work together, so that more people's lives will flourish."
