In December 1978, the Central Military Commission made a decision to fight against Vietnam after many discussions, and Xu Shiyou, commander of the Guangzhou Military Region, who was over 70 years old, served as the commander and led the PLA to fight on the Sino-Vietnamese border.
In the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, Xu Shiyou proposed two sets of combat plans, but they were both rejected by the Central Military Commission; if Xu Shiyou's combat plan was adopted, it was likely to directly rewrite world history.
After the founding of New China, the Party Central Committee has been avoiding taking the initiative to provoke wars with foreign countries and resolving border conflicts in a peaceful way as much as possible, but Viet Nam has taken our goodwill as a reason for not being able to go to war, frequently provoked wars on the border, killed mainland people, and invaded mainland territory.
Deng Xiaoping remembered Chairman Mao's words, fight with one punch, lest a hundred punches come, if we don't fight today, our descendants will fight in the future, and this battle must be fought for the happy life of future generations!
The Central Military Commission issued an order for self-defense and counterattack against Vietnam, and the 74-year-old Xu Shiyou became the commander-in-chief, and he also became the oldest commander-in-chief since the founding of New China.
Xu Shiyou has fought for half his life, and he has never seen any strong winds and waves, but this time he showed great caution in the battle with Viet Nam.
The reason for this is that before the self-defense and counterattack war against Vietnam, the PLA had not experienced a war for almost 20 years, and after the renewal of its troops, although its overall quality has improved a lot, it is extremely lacking in actual combat experience.
Xu Shiyou said worriedly:
"It is necessary for us to enter a state of combat readiness in advance, we have not fought for so many years, and now that the war has suddenly arrived, it is difficult for the soldiers to adapt to the tense life on the front line, once the battle starts, there is no time to eat and sleep, we must adapt to wartime life in advance!"
In December 1978, after more than a month of preparation, the PLA officially rushed to the frontline battlefield and was ready for battle.
Before the battle began, Xu Shiyou submitted a combat plan to the central authorities, believing that if our army could break through the enemy's defense line on the border, arrange for the Western Front Corps to march to the middle of the Viet Nam People's Army and cut off their waist and eye positions, the 300,000 People's Army would lose at least half.
However, the Central Military Commission did not adopt Xu Shiyou's opinion, and the Central Military Commission held that the war against Vietnam was, after all, a counterattack operation, and there was no need to drive out the Vietnamese army to extermination, which violated our original intention of the war.
Since the Central Military Commission did not accept it, Xu Shiyou did not mention it again, and commanded the troops to officially launch a counterattack operation against Viet Nam.
Under the command of Xu Shiyou, the People's Liberation Army was invincible, and in less than a month it approached Hanoi, the capital of Viet Nam, and at the moment when it was about to capture Hanoi, the Central Military Commission issued an order demanding that the troops immediately withdraw and never occupy Hanoi.
Xu Shiyou immediately commanded the PLA to retreat all the way, destroying along the way the factories and military bases that the mainland had helped them build when the mainland supported Viet Nam, which was a warning to Viet Nam's wolf ambitions.
When the Vietnamese army, which had fled in embarrassment, saw that our army had retreated, they immediately turned their guns, returned to the border line again, and took the initiative to provoke the war, and the ten-year-long tug-of-war on the Sino-Vietnamese border began.
At this time, Xu Shiyou put forward another set of combat plans, proposing to assist Cambodia, expel the Vietnamese army in Cambodia, and weaken the strength of the Vietnamese army, but this time the Central Military Commission still rejected Xu Shiyou's opinion, mainly because he was worried about causing turmoil in the Indochina Peninsula.
Now it seems that if Xu Shiyou's two sets of combat plans were adopted, it is likely to directly rewrite world history!
