Editor's note: The 2024 United States election is undoubtedly one of the most significant events affecting global change. Taking the pulse of the United States election and the future of China and the United States should be the top priority of China's regional country studies. To this end, the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of the Chinese University of China (Renmin University Chongyang) officially opened the "Regional Country Forum" to carry out a series of discussions on hot topics in various regions and countries around the world every year. Starting from July 2024, the Center for China-US People-to-People Exchange Research (Ministry of Education) of Renmin University of Chinese, which is operated and managed by the Chongyang National People's Congress, will take the lead in launching a series of lectures on "United States Election 2024 and the Future of China and the United States", inviting 12 well-known experts from China and the United States to speak publicly and offline.
In this lecture, Wang Dong, a tenured full professor at the School of International Studies of Peking University and executive director of the Sino-foreign People-to-People Exchange Research Base of Peking University of the Ministry of Education, was invited to this lecture. He will give a speech on the theme of "Globalization Trends and the Evolution of United States' China Policy under the Century-old Changes". Wang Dong is a tenured full professor at the School of International Studies, Peking University, and executive director of the Research Center for People-to-People Exchanges at Peking University, Ministry of Education
Wang Dong is also a dual-appointment professor at the Institute of Global Health Development of Peking University, deputy director of the Department of Social Sciences and director of the Think Tank Office of Peking University, a Young Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education, the first outstanding young scientist in Beijing, and vice president of the Chinese United States Society. He received his LL.B. from the School of International Studies of Peking University United States and his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His main research areas are United States diplomacy and Sino-US relations. He is the author or editor-in-chief of 7 books in Chinese and English, including Reglobalization: A New Perspective for Understanding China's Interaction with the World (2018), Beyond the Thucydides Trap: U.S.-China Relations in the Strategic Domain (2020), and U.S.-China Diplomatic Relations: The Impact of Power Shifts on the Eurasian Region (2020), and has published in Diplomatic History, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Foreign Affairs, The He has published numerous articles in leading academic journals and newspapers such as the Pacific Review and The New York Times.
