Preface
Li Xiaoxia is one of the legends of Chinese table tennis, and she has achieved several important achievements in her career. After she retired, she chose a new direction in life, including marrying Zhai Yiming, the coach of the Liaoning table tennis team, and giving birth to two daughters. Recently, she seems to have started a new job, which shows her positive adaptation and versatile side to life.
After retiring, she gave birth to her husband and children, and lived a sweet life with her husband
Li Xiaoxia announced her retirement from table tennis after the 2017 Tianjin National Games, and subsequently married her boyfriend, Zhai Yiming, who is also a former national player, and held a wedding soon after. Zhai Yiming became the coach of the Liaoning table tennis team after retiring, which made them a typical table tennis family.
In November 2018, Li Xiaoxia ushered in her motherhood. These events marked the beginning of a new phase of Li's life, moving away from her career as a professional athlete to focus on her family and new roles, as well as welcoming her two daughters. Although she is no longer active in front of the table tennis table, she has not left the public eye.
She is actively involved in various social welfare activities. Especially during the pandemic, she volunteered to serve the community and show her role models to the children. She is also actively involved in public welfare undertakings, serving as the image ambassador of Liaoning public interest litigation inspection and publicity, helping to solve problems in the protection of women's rights and interests.
As a sports person, Li Xiaoxia is very open to children's education, and does not want to force them to engage in table tennis or other sports, but encourages them to choose freely and enjoy the happiness and health brought by sports. Through the "Xia Brigade" program, she went deep into primary and secondary schools and colleges to promote the spirit of table tennis and provide training camps and training activities for young people. These activities not only popularize table tennis, but also promote international exchanges, and donate the proceeds to social welfare institutions.
In addition, Li Xiaoxia also took on the responsibility of education, serving as a professor of physical education at the School of Physical Education of Shenyang University, teaching college students to play table tennis. She is committed to optimizing the teaching model and has made outstanding contributions to the improvement of sports and physical fitness of college students.
Talented table tennis player
Li Xiaoxia was born in June 1988 in Anshan, Liaoning Province. She has been a sporty girl since she was a child, and she loves to play soccer and basketball with boys, and loves challenging activities. In 1995, Li Xiaoxia, who was not yet 8 years old, was studying in a preschool class. One day, she followed her mother Jiang Yan to Anshan Chemical Textile Factory and happened to see the table tennis training organized by the factory. At this time, Li Xiaoxia was deeply attracted to table tennis, and she insisted on learning this sport.
In order to exercise, Jiang Yan sent Li Xiaoxia to the table tennis class, which was in charge of coach Zhang Hongzhi. After several trials, Li Xiaoxia was completely hooked on the sport and has been looking forward to training every day since then. With the guidance of Coach Zhang Hongzhi, Li Xiaoxia's table tennis skills have improved rapidly. However, with the dissolution of the table tennis class of the chemical mill, Zhang Hongzhi also left. However, fortunately, Li Xiaoxia was sent to Anshan Tiedong District Sports School, and Zhang Hongzhi was also transferred here.
When she was in sports school, Li Xiaoxia could hardly find an opponent who could match it, except for the future world champion Guo Yue. There were some matches between the two, but Guo Yue soon entered the provincial team, which made Li Xiaoxia fall into a situation where there was no suitable opponent again. In order to promote her progress, Zhang Hongzhi sent Li Xiaoxia to Jinan Sports School, when she was not yet 10 years old.
Although she left home at a young age and Li Xiaoxia faced many challenges on the road to table tennis, her efforts also paid off significantly. In 1998, she was selected into the Shandong Provincial Sports Team just one year after her year at Jinan Sports School and began her career as a professional athlete. When she was in the Shandong team, Li Xiaoxia got acquainted with Qiao Yunping and became her mentor. Qiao Yunping not only taught her skills on the court, but also gave her care and support in life.
Faced with the unaccustomed diet of the team, especially the nutritious black chicken soup prepared for athletes, Qiao Yunping accompanied Li Xiaoxia to taste it and drank it one bite at a time, and gradually Li Xiaoxia began to call her "Aunt Qiao". Under the guidance of Qiao Yunping, Li Xiaoxia's career ushered in a period of rapid development. In 2000, she entered the national second team, and the following year she was promoted to the national first team, and began to appear frequently in domestic and foreign competitions.
The road to the "Grand Slam".
She was highly anticipated when she first joined the national team, but was hit hard early in her career. In 2002, although she won the women's singles championship at the national championships, she was completely suppressed by the opponent when she went to Europe to compete with Croatian players, and the following year, despite a year of hard training, she still failed to participate in the Paris World Table Tennis Championships.
During this period, Li Xiaoxia was physically and mentally exhausted. Her physical and mental state was severely affected and she was unable to train effectively or even overcome her physical distress. She often cries alone, fearing that her table tennis career will come to a standstill forever. Coach Lee's patient guidance and careful arrangement finally enabled her to slowly recover her mental state and devote herself back to training. After a period of hard work, Li Xiaoxia finally made a breakthrough and qualified for the 2005 Shanghai World Table Tennis Championships.
However, just as the match was about to begin, she mysteriously fell ill with a high fever, this time a physical reflection of her mental problems that put her training and competitive career in trouble once again. However, these setbacks didn't break her, but instead motivated her to train and compete harder.
Since 2007, Li Xiaoxia's performance has gradually improved, and she has accumulated valuable experience in domestic and international competitions, and gradually improved her technical level. By the time of the Beijing Olympics, she had already reached a level that was no match for any of her opponents at the time, thus beginning a brilliant period of her career.
Li Xiaoxia is overshadowed by the fact that her former rival Guo Yue, who became the youngest World Champion in history at the age of 16, failed to compete. This is also due to the strength of the national team at that time, and all the players have shining resumes.
Although she failed to participate in the 2003 World Table Tennis Championships, Li Xiaoxia performed well in major competitions after that, and cooperated with her teammates tacitly to win many gold medals in team competitions in a row. During the downturn, Li Xiaoxia was not without achievements, and even won the first world-class singles championship of her career during this time.
Sometimes luck may really be close, and due to the poor performance of other team members at the 2010 World Table Tennis Championships in Moscow, Li Xiaoxia was given the opportunity to be reactivated. After some twists and turns, she won the London 2012 Olympics and the 2013 Paris World Table Tennis Championships, and finally completed her Grand Slam.
conclusion
Li Xiaoxia is a legend in the world of table tennis, and it took her 18 years to finally reach the top of the Grand Slam. After retiring, Li Xiaoxia chose to stay away from the game and devote herself to family life. She runs a happy family with her husband and has two lovely children. In the family, she showed a different light and sense of responsibility, and treated family life with the same persistence and enthusiasm, and this happy life became a wonderful continuation of her second stage of life.
