In 2015, his illness was made public and he was admitted to an older nursing home, and his wife, daughter, and old friends such as Heynckes and Hermann-Grande often visited him;
In May, when Levan broke the old Mueller's single-season Bundesliga record of 40 goals, his wife rushed to the nursing home to inform the bedridden old Mueller about the incident and repeated it two or three times, but the elder Mueller was still unconscious and did not react.
