One evening, while having dinner with his cousin, Would-be Bishop Corbett, Walcliffe lamented how old-fashioned and exhausting the cutlery industry in Britain had become. The two then devised a new type of knife and presented it to the Joseph Rogers & Sons cutlery company in Sheffield, the centre of the cutlery trade in the UK.
Rogers liked the blade so much that the company put it into production and named it "Walcliffe" in God's name.
