It's been six days since the NBA's free agency market opened, and most of the big-name players have signed with new clubs. Among them, Paul George joined the 76ers, LeBron James renewed his contract with the Lakers, and Klay Thompson moved to the Mavericks and other blockbuster transactions, which undoubtedly brought new shocks to the league's map.
While most of the biggest stars on the free agency market are already famous, there are still plenty of talented free agents in the mix, and they're still looking for a place to be. Next, let's take a look at the stars who are still waiting in the free market.
7. Malik Beasley
One of the league's top three-point shooters, Malik Beasley is still waiting for his new club on the free market. Last season with the Bucks, Beasley averaged 6.9 three-pointers per game and shot a staggering 41 percent from the field.
However, Beasley's path back to Milwaukee appears to have been blocked. Despite his commendable marksmanship, he struggled defensively. The Thunder, Warriors and Pistons are all rumored to have their eyes on the shooter.
6. Caleb Martin
With his stellar performance in the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals, Caleb Martin has made a name for himself. The six-foot-and-five-inch wing tough guy is not only accurate in three-point shooting, but also tough defensively.
Martin's return to the Heat is unlikely, and while the 76ers are interested in him, Martin is seeking a contract with an annual salary of more than $15 million, which makes his fate even more confusing. The Bulls are also seen as a potential new owner for Martin.
5. Spencer Dinwiddie
Spencer Dinwiddie, a 10-year veteran, is once again on a journey to find a new owner.
Dinwiddie, who has played for five different teams, was traded to the Raptors before the trade deadline this season and was subsequently bought out and joined the Lakers. The six-foot-and-five-inch tall point guard has made a huge impact on the court with his playmaking ability averaging 5.2 assists per game.
Both the Lakers and Mavericks have expressed strong interest in Dinwiddie, and the Suns, who are in dire need of playmaking strength, should not be overlooked. In this case, though, Dinwiddie may only be able to accept a veteran base salary contract.
4. Gary Trent II
Given Gary Trent's elite-level marksmanship, it's surprising that he hasn't signed yet.
Last season, Trent shot 39.3 percent from three-point range and 38.6 percent from three-point range in his career. With the Raptors fully rebuilding, Trent's return to Toronto is highly unlikely.
Although the details of the contract Trent is currently seeking have not been made public, the Lakers, Pistons, and Nuggets could all be his new owners. The Nuggets, in particular, will be much stronger if Trent joins the Nuggets as a replacement for Pope, but that may require him to accept a veteran base salary contract.
3. Miles Bridge
Miles Bridges, the controversial striker, is undoubtedly the best of the remaining free agents.
However, Bridges' off-court behaviour and the charges he has faced have undoubtedly been a significant factor in his still unsigned contract. The Hornets have yet to renew his contract, and Bridges' future seems to be drifting away from Charlotte's rebuilding path.
From a basketball perspective, Bridges is athletic and an average scorer who can score 20+ points per game. His talent has caught the eye of the Clippers and Cavaliers, both of whom are in dire need of a forward player with Bridges' skills and are expected to sign him for a reasonable price.
2. Tyus Jones
The reason why Tyus Jones has not signed so far is unknown.
Jones is one of the league's best backcourt commanders, setting a new record last season with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 7.3:1 and leading the league in assist-to-turnover ratios for the fifth consecutive season.
For a team aspiring to win a title, Jones' arrival would be of great value. The Heat, Lakers, Clippers, and Magic are all teams to keep an eye on for Jones. Perhaps Jones' delay in signing was precisely due to the need to reach a sign-and-trade deal so that these teams could successfully sign him.
1. DeMar DeRozan
DeMar DeRozan is undoubtedly the biggest left-name free agent on the market. The 15-year veteran winger is also a six-time All-Star.
Last season, DeRozan averaged 24 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. He's an elite scorer, the league's singles champion, and can be a huge help to championship contenders.
Teams interested in DeRozan include the Lakers, Clippers, Heat, Kings, 76ers, and Spurs. DeRozan's delay in finding a new club is due in part to his not-so-great outside shooting, which has a career three-point percentage of just 29 percent.
In addition, most of DeRozan's potential next home doesn't have enough salary space to sign him outright, so a sign-and-trade deal is required. However, DeRozan is so talented that it is believed that he will not remain unsigned for long.
