In today's young people, the pursuit of challenge and excitement has become a fashion, they are eager to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, to find those adventures that can make their hearts beat faster and their blood boil, this large no-man's land full of mystery and unknown, has undoubtedly become a holy place in their hearts.
In 2023, a variety show called "All the Way Forward" will be popular all over the Internet, its main purpose is to call on people to protect nature, and the program team has footprints all over the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Lancang River, Sanya and other magnificent scenic spots, but only in the face of Hoh Xili, they chose to be in awe and protection, and did not set foot in this sacred pure land for filming.
However, the charm of Hoh Xil is really irresistible, and in 2020, a senior girl, Huang Yumeng, with a desire for the unknown, set off from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and embarked on a journey on foot through the uninhabited area of Hoh Xil.
But unfortunately, 25 days later, her remains were found by the police in a no-man's land, shockingly, there was no trace of flesh on her bones, apparently gnawed by wild beasts, and even more bizarrely, no blood was found at the scene, and the police speculated that she may have been naked before she was killed.
Why would such a young girl choose such an adventurous journey and be alone?
Huang Yumeng is a young girl from Yongming Town, Santai County, Mianyang, Sichuan, born in 1996, the only daughter in her family, who grew up under the care of her parents.
She grew up in a family with superior material conditions and a strong intellectual atmosphere, and her parents were intellectuals who invested a lot of effort in her education.
Huang Yumeng's academic journey was smooth at first, however, a failure in the college entrance examination forced her to face setbacks. But she was not discouraged, chose to repeat her studies for a year, and finally successfully admitted to Anhui University of Science and Technology.
However, after entering the university, Huang Yumeng gradually found that she was not interested in her major, and just when she felt lost, the female pilot enrollment of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics brought her new hope.
With her outstanding appearance, excellent academic performance and excellent physical fitness, she successfully stood out and became a member of the flight program of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
In the flying profession, she excelled and learned the theoretical knowledge with ease, but the practical courses were the biggest challenge she faced.
However, fate always seems to like to joke with her, and during flight training, Huang Yumeng twice overtime at critical moments due to psychological tension, missing his dream of becoming a pilot.
The first time was in August 2018, when she overtime due to nervousness and failed the assessment, and the second time was in flight training in South Africa in 2019, although she trained hard and performed well, she overtime due to nervousness during the formal assessment, and once again missed her dream.
At this time, her heart was full of expectations and anxieties for the future, and she still had to make a lot of preparations for graduation.
According to her roommate's recollection, Huang Yumeng's mood during that time was extremely low, as if she was shrouded in a layer of haze, and she longed to find a pure land and release her inner depression, so she decided to leave the campus to relax.
However, no one expected that her footsteps would lead to the distant and mysterious Hoh Xili, that no-man's land full of unknowns and dangers.
A few days later, in the classroom of the aviation school, a university teacher was taking a roll call in a make-up class for the summer vacation, but when the name "Huang Yumeng" was called repeatedly, the classroom was silent.
The teacher noticed the abnormality and asked the classmates in the same dormitory, and learned that Huang Yumeng had not shown up for four or five days, had not returned to the dormitory, and no one answered the phone.
After receiving the report, the Nanjing police immediately launched an investigation, first contacting Huang Yumeng's family and learning that she had not returned home, and then the police contacted her friends, but all said they had not seen her.
At this time, the police realized that this could be a serious case of disappearance, so they quickly filed a case and began to search for Huang Yumeng's traces throughout Nanjing.
During the investigation, the police found that Huang Yumeng's mobile phone purchase records showed that she had purchased a train ticket to Golmud in Qinghai Province a week earlier, and the destination was directly in the vast and mysterious land of Hoh Xil.
The discovery shocked and worried both the police and Huang's family. They moved quickly and traveled thousands of miles to the city of Golmud.
After receiving the Nanjing police's notice of assistance in the investigation, the Golmud police also attached great importance to the case, and they quickly set up a special task force to assist the Nanjing police in carrying out the investigation.
The police in both places quickly assembled a team of dozens of professional search and rescue team members who embarked on a journey to Hoh Xil, determined to find the missing Huang Yumeng.
At the beginning of July, the team braved the scorching sun, trekked on rugged mountain roads, climbed over countless snow-capped mountains, and finally captured the weak signal from Huang Yumeng's mobile phone about 200 kilometers away from the starting point.
This faint signal, like a twinkling star in the darkness, gave the search and rescue team a glimmer of hope, and they firmly believed that Huang Yumeng would soon be found.
However, just when everyone was full of anticipation, the mobile phone signal suddenly disappeared, like a extinguished candle, pushing the search and rescue team into the abyss again.
The vast snowfield of Hoh Xil is so white that it is difficult to find even a trace, and the search and rescue team members can only rely on the last signal source to carry out a aimless search on this vast land.
For a whole month of July, the search and rescue team experienced an unprecedented test in the no-man's land of Hoh Xil, they fought against bitter cold, hunger, thirst and altitude sickness, and everyone's body was under tremendous pressure, and they struggled to move forward on this snow-covered crater, with only one belief in their hearts: to find Huang Yumeng.
However, despite all these efforts, the search and rescue team was unable to find any trace of Huang Yumeng in this desolate snowy region.
As if she had never been seen, she disappeared into the hideaway without a trace, and local nomads joined the search and rescue team, but again found nothing.
As July drew to a close, the hearts of the search and rescue team members grew heavier, and they knew that there was no hope that Huang Yumeng would survive.
However, they did not give up and continued to search on this snowy field, hoping to find the brave girl at the last minute.
At a time when the search and rescue team was going through difficulties and finding nothing, a shocking news suddenly came, in a corner of Hoh Xili, the skeleton of Huang Yumeng was found, this skeleton has been gnawed by wild beasts, almost only the skeleton remains, which is distressing.
According to the police who found the bones, they initially thought they had found the remains of a Tibetan antelope, but after closer inspection, they felt abnormal.
As they took a closer look, they were horrified to find that it was actually a human skeleton, and what was even more heartbreaking was that they found Huang Yumeng's documents in the scattered schoolbags nearby, a discovery that made everyone feel extremely heavy.
After careful comparison and confirmation by the police, the skeleton was finally identified as Huang Yumeng's, and this news was like a hammer, shattering the remaining hope in the hearts of the search and rescue team members.
After investigating the scene, an even more bizarre detail emerged: Huang Yumeng's coat was intact, as if she took it off on her own initiative, rather than being torn by external forces.
This discovery made everyone shudder, and they couldn't help but wonder if Huang Yumeng had taken medicine on the plateau out of the idea of suicide.
After investigation, it was concluded that on the cold plateau, she may have lost consciousness under the influence of the drug, and her body gradually lost temperature, so she took the initiative to take off her clothes and tried to find a trace of warmth, but in the end she failed to resist the invasion of the cold and left this world forever.
This tragedy is yet another reminder that young people are facing serious challenges with mental health issues, and that the pressures of academics, careers and relationships can snowball and eventually lead to irreparable tragedies if the right channels are not found to release and alleviate them.
Huang Yumeng's death is a profound microcosm of this problem, which makes us think deeply about how to better care for and protect the mental health of the younger generation.
