In the fifties and sixties of the last century, the Kuomintang authorities, who had retreated to Taiwan, were undead in their thieving intentions and always retained the idea of counterattacking the mainland; while mobilizing forces on the island, they also launched a public opinion offensive against the mainland, hoping to lure the mainland people into joining the anti-communist camp.
Among their recruits, pilots of the PLA Air Force are the primary targets, because they not only have scarce talents, but also have a large amount of military intelligence, and the influence of the Air Force mutiny is relatively large, which can provide positive material for anti-communist propaganda on the island.
In order to achieve this goal, in the 50s of the last century, the Taiwan authorities set up a number of radio stations to publicize to the mainland the preferential treatment policy for pilots after coming to Taiwan, and also gave a detailed account of the recommended routes for going to Taiwan after the "uprising" and how to avoid being attacked by Taiwan fighters.
Among them, the "Air Force Rose" Chen Menghua is in charge of the most influential radio station, and his extremely magnetic voice captured the heart of a PLA pilot in 1962, who was the first pilot to defect to the island of Taiwan, Liu Chengsi.
Liu Chengsi served in the naval aviation before defecting and was a second lieutenant pilot, and although the economic development of the mainland was relatively backward at that time, pilots still received a lot of preferential treatment as a scarce talent.
At the beginning of 1962, Liu Chengsi's unit decided to issue a watch to each pilot, which was a rare item at that time, and Liu Chengsi was also very much looking forward to it.
But at the time of the announcement, Liu Chengsi's captain lost his watch, and because Liu Chengsi had only joined the team not long ago, the logistics staff reissued the watch that should have been given to him to the captain.
Liu Chengsi, who did not receive the watch, was very disappointed, and he was dissatisfied with the organization, and when he flew in the future, he would hang the alarm clock around his neck, and the captain thought that his approach was really ridiculous, so he stopped his flight mission and asked him to make a review.
This decision undoubtedly annoyed Liu Chengsi, who heard Chen Menghua's radio program on the radio during the grounding, and was swayed by the heavy money and beautiful women promised by the Taiwanese side, and finally he decided to defect to Taiwan in pursuit of glory and wealth.
Immediately after that, he wrote a sincere review, and after seeing it, the captain thought that Liu Chengsi had deeply reflected on his mistakes, and decided to let him return to flying.
On March 3, 1962, Liu Chengsi piloted the MiG-15, the main fighter of the People's Liberation Army at that time, to take off from Zhejiang Luqiao to carry out a flight mission.
After leaving the airport, he deliberately distanced himself from his companions, and then flew all the way in the direction of Taiwan, where he was unsuccessfully intercepted due to the lack of preparation for his defection.
After that, Liu Chengsi flew all the way to Taiwan's Taoyuan base, but the Taiwan authorities did not understand his intention at first, and they also urgently closed the airport and launched a number of planes to intercept him.
After the communication, they opened the airport again and greeted the "hero" with a grand ceremony, they gave Liu Chengsi 1,000 taels of gold, and then introduced him to the celebrity Cai Jianmei to marry him.
In the past, one of the training planes that had been urgently lifted off in order to intercept Liu Chengsi had insufficient fuel reserves and finally failed to land, and the two pilots on board also died.

After Liu Chengsi's defection, his unit also suffered a huge shock, and officials at all levels, from the commander of the naval aviation to the commander of the squadron, were dismissed.
Liu Chengsi's defection was a serious incident in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Such an incident will indeed have a negative impact on the management, morale and other aspects of the troops to a certain extent.
No country will tolerate such serious violations of discipline and harm to national security. This also highlights the extreme importance of safeguarding national security and military discipline.
However, our country and military have a strong ability to repair and adjust themselves, and they are able to draw lessons from such incidents and continuously strengthen management and construction to better guarantee the security and stability of the country.
