On May 6 this year, heavy rain suddenly fell in Haikou, and water accumulated in some sections, among which Longkun North Road, as the main north-south passage in the urban area, also affected traffic to a certain extent due to the serious water accumulation in the overpass section of Guomao Road.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Haikou Municipal Water Affairs Bureau, Longkungou is one of the drainage channels in Haikou City, with a large basin area. In 2021, Haikou completed the Longkun North Drainage Pumping Station, which significantly reduced the high water level of the river on Longkun North Road (north of Longhua Bridge) and alleviated the problem of water accumulation in the area. However, due to the low-lying terrain in the downstream of Longkun ditch, the elevation of the top of the local embankment is only 2.54 meters, and the flow capacity of the river is only about 45 cubic meters per second, the Longkun North Drainage Pumping Station cannot exert its full efficiency, and the surrounding water accumulation phenomenon still exists. In order to alleviate the problem of waterlogging in the downstream of Longkun Ditch, Haikou started the construction of the Longkun Ditch remediation project in June 2023.
According to the person in charge of the Longkungou comprehensive renovation project of China Energy Gezhouba Municipal Corporation, the Longkungou remediation project has entered the main construction stage and is expected to be completed in July. At that time, the river water blocking obstacle will be removed, and the depth of the river will be dug to a depth of 60 cm to 70 cm, the water crossing section will be increased, the flow rate will be accelerated, and the river flow capacity will be increased from 45 cubic meters per second to 70 cubic meters per second, and the risk of waterlogging in the northern section of Longkun ditch will be greatly reduced.
