Zhengzhou, the core area of a Central Plains urban agglomeration, and this building is located in an idyllic area on the outskirts of the city; As a long and narrow townhouse facing north and south, the original building has a total of 4 floors, 2 floors above ground and 2 floors underground (the basement has a floor height of 5.5 meters, which can be divided into 2 floors, and only a small patio provides lighting), facing south as the main lighting direction, relying on a stairwell to connect each floor, with its own elevator. When the designer observed the site, he found that there was no good landscape around the building, so he decided to make an inward-looking building in the site.
In order to improve the utilization rate of the entire underground space and increase the lighting, the designer wanted to create a new building around the interior around the light.
Architectural remodeling
Modern concrete residential construction machinery, industrialized, out of touch with nature. The designers deliberately retained the concrete texture of the original building. The radial natural light is the source of the form of this space. After the excavation of the patio, a new façade is formed, and the whole volume is white to interpret the new and pure nature of the building. In such an environment, the symbiosis of organic and mechanization is particularly important. Light is brought in from the original building windows on the second and first floors, and as the height drops, the scope of natural light increases······
In terms of functional distribution, the designer clearly divides the functional areas of each floor, which are both independent and connected. The first floor and the second basement floor are the main floors for daily access, as public spaces, and the relatively independent second floors are used as living spaces. Homeowners also have daily gatherings, so the designers try to make each functional area as much area as possible.
The staircase was re-planned to allow for a more comfortable circulation connection in the functional areas of each floor. The staircase in the basement and on the first floor adopts a curved circulation line, which integrates the space and aims to surround the entire lighting area and connect the functions of the public space. From the first floor to the second floor, the public space to the living space is designed to place the staircase in a more private location. The stacked volumes not only enhance the sense of line, but also are sculptural installations.
Architectural rebirth
Do not break or stand, create light
As the staircase enters the underground space, light and shadow intertwine, from parallel light to sky light, from cold light to warm light. While the flow of light and shadow not only gives the space characteristics, but also gives life to the building......
When the original obstacles of the building are completely eliminated, the longitudinal transparency not only strengthens the spatial volume, but also introduces the light from the "outside" of the room into the "inside" of the room to a limited extent, thus eliminating the definition of "inside" and "outside" of the space, and the interaction of space is generated.
With the help of the staggered interweaving of "blocks" and walls, the "sculptural" staircase is quietly born; Its rough texture like "concrete" not only emphasizes the "purity" of the building, but also strengthens the spatial form, and also gives "new power to the space".
Climb the stairs and move the scenery differently; The flow of light and shadow makes the space begin to present different textures, and the interlacing of light and dark seems to tell the emotions in the space.
The light-emitting island of the cloakroom is an original research and development product of this project. On the dark side of the backlight, light is still the focus of the designer's message. It's light, it's changeable, it's a sculpture of light.
