BEIJING, May 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ: PANW), a global leader in cybersecurity, and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced a broad partnership to deliver AI-driven security outcomes to customers. The announcement is a testament to Palo Alto Networks and IBM's commitment to each other's platforms and capabilities.

Driven by digital transformation and the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, the expanding and complex enterprise technology landscape poses significant cybersecurity challenges. To address increasingly sophisticated threats and an ever-changing attack surface, more and more organizations are opting for a comprehensive, AI-based security platform. Palo Alto Networks and IBM wanted to help customers simplify and optimize security operations, stop threats at scale, and accelerate incident remediation with a complete path to AI technology. In line with industry trends, this partnership between Palo Alto Networks and IBM will provide significant growth opportunities for both companies.

As part of the expanded partnership, Palo Alto Networks has agreed to acquire IBM's QRadar SaaS assets, including intellectual property related to QRadar products, subject to customary closing conditions. Upon completion of the transaction, Palo Alto Networks and IBM will assist QRadar SaaS customers in migrating to the Cortex® XSIAM® platform. Cortex® XSIAM® is the industry's leading next-generation security operations (SOC) platform that delivers AI-driven threat protection capabilities powered by 3,000 out-of-the-box detectors. Customers using the on-premise (on-prem) version of QRadar continue to enjoy relevant features and IBM support, including security, usability, and critical bug fixes, as well as updates and extended use of existing connectors. For QRadar SaaS and on-premises customers who choose to migrate to Cortex XSIAM, the two companies and their partner ecosystems will work closely together to help customers achieve a smooth migration; IBM and Palo Alto Networks will provide free migration services to eligible customers. As part of the agreement, IBM will receive incremental payments from Palo Alto Networks for customers who choose to migrate to the on-premises version of QRadar to the Cortex XSIAM platform.

"A win-win strategic partnership will benefit the entire industry, as is the case with our strategic partnership with Palo Alto Networks announced today," said. The advanced threat protection and automation solutions built on Cortex XSIAM and watsonx, combined with IBM Consulting's industry expertise, will help customers and partners accelerate the adoption of next-generation security operations. Together with Palo Alto Networks, we will deliver these capabilities and accelerate our investments and innovations in security areas such as data security, identity and access management." These are the key products our customers need to protect their data, hybrid cloud environments, AI models, and applications. IBM is excited to partner with the Palo Alto Networks team, and we look forward to the future of AI-driven cybersecurity innovation." "

Together, build a security operations center

IBM Consulting will be the Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) of choice for current and future customers of Palo Alto Networks. In addition, the joint security operations center will be equipped with managed SOC services and a joint cyber range (Cyber Range) will be established to provide customers with an immersive experience to further understand the value of Palo Alto Networks' security products. IBM experts with global, regional and local delivery capabilities will leverage watsonx, IT automation and threat intelligence to power their consulting efforts and drive growth and adoption of the Palo Alto Networks security platform.

As IBM's preferred cybersecurity partner, Palo Alto Networks' leading cybersecurity solutions will be available on the IBM Consulting Advantage AI services platform, including the accumulation of relevant materials and a scalable, replicable methodology. Palo Alto Networks and IBM will accelerate the training of IBM consultants, helping more than 1,000 IBM experts deliver migration, deployment and adoption services across the Palo Alto Networks platform. IBM will also leverage watsonx's ability to build verticals on Cortex XSIAM. Similar to IBM's partnerships with other major technology companies, IBM expects this collaboration to significantly boost its security business with Palo Alto Networks.

Strengthen cooperation for mutual benefit and win-win results

IBM plans to expand its deployment of the Palo Alto Networks AI security platform internally, including selecting Cortex XSIAM as its next-generation security operations platform and adopting Prisma SASE 3.0 for zero-trust cybersecurity to protect more than 250,000 IBM employees worldwide. IBM's adoption of security platforming is a prime example of how companies have chosen Palo Alto Networks security products and benefited from simplified security operations.

Palo Alto Networks plans to integrate watsonx large language models into Cortex XSIAM to enhance its automation capabilities and leverage IBM watsonx to accelerate customer support improvements. watsonx will help Palo Alto Networks proactively address known technical issues, create tailored self-service solutions, and improve the overall productivity of Palo Alto Networks' customer support operations. In addition, Palo Alto Networks plans to deploy other IBM software products to capture the latest innovations in cloud and automation.

Bring DevSecOps capabilities to market

Through this forward-looking partnership, IBM will expand its partnership with Prisma® Cloud, the industry's most comprehensive cloud-native application protection platform (CNAPP). Prisma Cloud will expand its existing integration with IBM DevOps products, including cloud-native security built for Red Hat OpenShift and Ansible. IBM's strength in DevOps, combined with Palo Alto Networks' cloud security expertise, will provide mutual customers with "secure-by-design" DevSecOps capabilities that prevent insecure code from running in cloud workloads in production.

The transaction portion of this announcement is expected to close by the end of September 2024, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
