Goodbye, Dynamic Island

At present, smartphones are stuck in an innovation bottleneck, which has basically become a consensus in the industry.

On the whole, the main reason for the stagnation of smartphone innovation is most likely in technology.

In a previous interview, Apple also revealed its definition of the ultimate form of the iPhone.

That is a real full-screen smartphone equipped with a screen that is like "a whole piece of glass".

For Apple to do this, the first thing to solve is how to move the front camera and Face ID components under the display.

Recently, the whistleblower @数码闲聊站在一则推文中 revealed the latest progress of this plan for us.

According to @数码闲聊站爆料, the main mobile phone manufacturers that promote 3D face recognition technology are Apple and Huawei, and the ultimate solution is to process the relevant components under the screen.

A survey of the supply chain shows that the industry plans to move some components under the screen and reduce the area of the hole in 2026.

Subsequently, the supply chain will further improve the process in 2027 to ensure that 3D facial recognition functions can function properly under a single hole or a true full screen.

In fact, from the upgrade route of the iPhone in recent years, we can clearly see a series of Apple's layouts in this regard.

In 2017, Apple debuted an all-screen model, the iPhone X, with Face ID and the camera component placed in the top notch.

Subsequently, in the iPhone 13 Pro series models, the notch ratio was significantly reduced, and the following year ushered in the first iPhone 14 Pro with a punch-hole screen design.

At the same time, it is not surprising that the Dynamic Island may also be removed after the iPhone's punch hole area is further reduced.

As we all know, Apple's original intention to launch the Dynamic Island is mainly to integrate with the iPhone hardware design through software functions to bring some practicality to the abrupt open area.

And as the hole area of the iPhone shrinks, and even further removes the punch hole, the Dynamic Island basically loses its meaning of existence.

Judging from the main feedback from external users, the utilization rate of the Dynamic Island function is generally not high, and the daily perception is not obvious.

In addition, the feature is a transitional product, and it is not surprising that it will eventually be abandoned.

In this regard, well-known source Ross Young has revealed that Apple will adopt the under-display Face ID design for the first time in the iPhone 18 series as soon as 2026.

This means that as soon as the iPhone 18 series, we'll see a further narrower camera hole, as well as a larger screen-to-body ratio.

Combined with the statement that the appearance of the flagship iPhone "changes every three years", this is also in line with Apple's conservative style in recent years.

But no matter what, with the blessing of under-display Face ID technology, a true full-screen iPhone is still one of Apple's ultimate goals.

Of course, even if under-display Face ID is adopted, it will most likely be one of the first Pro series models to be exclusive to the design.

Judging from the news exposed by the outside world so far, Apple still has a lot of radical plans for the future iPhone upgrade route.

In addition to the true full screen, there is also an interface-free design and more convenient wireless charging technology.

We believe that as the technology matures, these transformative new iPhone designs will eventually be available to us.

In short, let's look forward to the next "X" moment of iPhone.
