May 18 is International Museum Day, and this year's theme is "Museums Committed to Education and Research". The main event in Shanghai was selected to be held at the World Expo Museum in Huangpu District.
During the event, representatives of the "Honorary Citizens of the Museum" shared the warm stories between the museum and the people and the moments when the museum lit up life, and four "honorary citizens" were awarded. The "Museum Thanksgiving Program" in Huangpu District was launched, and the Huangpu District Museum Theme Trail was released. The museum should focus on the needs of society and the development of the times, combine its educational and research functions with the cultural and tourism resources of Huangpu District, and form educational content with Huangpu characteristics.
The Huangpu District Bureau of Culture and Tourism, together with more than 20 cultural and museum venues in the district, participated in the World Expo Spring Market, one of the main events of this year's International Museum Day in Shanghai. Comprehensively promote the major venues, display the key educational products, research products, cultural and creative products and other physical objects newly launched by each museum in recent years, and also provide interactive activities such as commemorative stamps and cultural and creative lucky draws. The miniature exhibition "Huangpu, the Beginning of Modern Chinese Museum" reviews the development of China's first modern museum in Huangpu District since its birth in 1874, showing the intrinsic relationship between museums and the shaping of urban cultural character.
The reporter learned that today, the number of registered museums in Shanghai has reached 165, including 23 in Huangpu District, which is the area with the largest number of museums in the city. Around the People's Square, where the origin of Shanghai is located, there are major museums such as Shanghai Expo. Around the memorial hall at the site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, various red venues commemorate the party's spark inheritance. The Bund Historical Memorial Hall and other major venues are like pearls embedded in the Huangpu Riverside.
On the 2024 Museum Day, Huangpu District has set up three museum-themed trails with the themes of "City Origin", "Spark Inheritance" and "Expo Riverside", inviting citizens to start a journey to the Shencheng Museum from here, allowing citizens to experience high-quality public cultural services.
In the future, Huangpu District will also take "high-level cultural tourism and high-quality experience" as the overall goal, serve the cultural and museum venues in the region, practice cultural self-confidence and improve cultural soft power.
