Fans have discussed the possible name of the Switch 2

After years of rumors about Nintendo's console successor, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has officially confirmed that the company will make an announcement regarding the Switch 2 this fiscal year. However, the confirmation of the successor console has sparked a lot of different opinions about the successor to the Switch, leading fans to speculate about various things.

Over the past month, there has been a bit of murmur about the Nintendo Switch successor's codename, with some leakers saying that the console's codename will be "Muji" and saying that the name was discovered after digging into the Switch 2 software development kit. Some of the more knowledgeable Switch hackers and developers have suggested that the leaked "Muji" name is a placeholder to avoid revealing the real codename.

In a recent Twitter post, prominent leaker Midori explained her previously leaked information that Nintendo appears to be preparing an enhanced version of Breath of the Wild for the new Switch system. Since the new project's internal codename bears the suffix -O, she speculates that the Switch's successor console may have been codenamed "Ounce", a name that stems from how Nintendo was able to fit more powerful hardware onto a portable device without making the device too heavy, comparing it to the Nintendo GameCube.

Midori noted that the names "Switch 2" and "New Switch" are used interchangeably, and she believes neither name will be used for the final console. Twitter user Aero's reply noted that Nintendo may keep the name of the console a secret and refer to the system as Switch 2 or something similar, as it's easy to say. Midori said she agrees.

Whether Muji, Ounce, or even Switch 2 are the codenames for Nintendo's next-generation consoles, those names don't usually become final. After all, the original Nintendo Switch used the moniker "NX" before its official release in 2016. Fans need to wait for Nintendo to officially announce the next generation of the Switch.
