The reporter learned that four basic telecommunications companies in the mainland have successfully verified the technical feasibility of 5G cross-network roaming in conjunction with relevant units in the industry, and have gradually taken the lead in opening relevant services in various states and cities in Xinjiang since last year. In the future, the specific situation and needs of 5G networks across the country will be comprehensively evaluated, and commercial promotion will be gradually carried out.
Wang Zhiqin, Vice President of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology: Users in the open area can enjoy the business and application services of cross-network roaming without changing numbers and cards with terminals that support 5G cross-network roaming. From the perspective of the industry, 5G cross-network roaming reduces repeated investment and improves the efficiency of the entire 5G network construction. In many remote areas, it can quickly build and achieve 5G network coverage.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the mainland has built the world's largest and technologically advanced 5G network. As of the end of March this year, a total of 3.647 million 5G base stations have been built in mainland China, and the penetration rate of 5G users has exceeded 60%.
