This seems to indicate that the "decoupling" between China and the United States in the field of science and technology is accelerating.
Why are U.S. tech companies pulling out of China? What is the logic behind it? In the author's opinion, there are four main reasons:
First, the technology competition between China and the United States is becoming increasingly fierce. Third, the United States has strengthened the protection of key technologies. Fourth, the deterioration of political relations between China and the United States has made the prospects for cooperation uncertain. The U.S. government has stepped up its crackdown on Chinese tech companies. The uncertain political environment has also made U.S. technology companies worry about doing business in China.
Fierce technology competition between China and the United States, the decline in the attractiveness of the Chinese market, the strengthening of technology protection in the United States, and the deterioration of political relations between China and the United States have all contributed to the "risk aversion" measures taken by American technology companies to reduce the scale of their operations in China and avoid leaking core technologies.
In fact, this wave of withdrawals also reflects China's rising technological prowess. In the past, China relied on imported technology, but now Chinese technology companies are competing head-to-head with multinationals, fearing that their technological advantage will be eroded. This proves from another side that China's independent innovation capability has posed a threat.
Of course, the withdrawal of U.S. technology companies will also have a certain impact on China. In the short term, it could cause employment and economic losses. But in the long run, this will help China become self-reliant in science and technology, and get rid of its dependence on foreign technology. China is fully capable of cultivating its own talents and developing independent and innovative technologies.
In fact, China is vigorously developing strategic emerging industries such as chips and artificial intelligence. China has established a complete chip industry chain and has a strong infrastructure such as 5G and industrial Internet. Coupled with China's huge market demand and resource endowment advantages, China's scientific and technological development prospects are very broad.
At present, the "decoupling" of science and technology between China and the United States may be unavoidable, but it does not mean a "new iron curtain".
