01 | River Clyde

Sushruta Shankar

The project is an interesting exploration of Glasgow's own River Clyde, which can be transformed into a flood-resistant place where people can enjoy different types of activities along the river, while adding to the 'locality' it has long lacked. The idea revolves around macro and micro city-scale interventions, and how a simple part of running along the river can completely upgrade the river to solve current problems as well as future flooding.

"The project is an interesting attempt to explore the possibility of retrofitting the riverbank using flood design interventions. Try the banks of the River Clyde in the heart of Glasgow, a new imaginary riverbank that not only solves future flooding problems, but also brings the city together on the riverbank, rekindling the experience of the river as an "intimate" part of the city.

The current state of the River Clyde is rather disappointing in the matter of access to the south bank of the River Clyde. As you can see from the map, there is no pedestrian connection to the southeast shore and no visible connection south from Ingram Street. With a lot of open space on the east and northwest banks, there are few active places on the banks of the River Clyde. Discontinuities in the urban fabric are evident in the breaks in the grid pattern and the large height difference between the Custom Quay and Carlton Place buildings, which makes the river edge visually distinct and reduces the experience when crossing from north to south.

The North Bank has a limited intersection for people to cross the road to reach the bank, and there is a railing in the center of the 4-lane road near the IFSC Center. The edge of the blank canvas not only does not stimulate activity, it restricts users to most strolls or jogs along the Clyde with very few mixed-age users. Relative to the area that Edge already has and the potential to turn these challenges into solutions, let's take a look at the historical context in which the River Clyde once was, as it may hold the answer to what it might become.

As Glasgow has been in the shipbuilding industry, we see through these pictures that the early banks were used to have these "shed-like structures for the storage of goods and access through both sides." They run parallel to the river and vary in width from 10 to 25 meters. We can also see that the proportions of the buildings around Clyde are on a human scale (from ground to +3 floors), which adds to the picturesque city in age. This forms the basis for the future habitable wall infrastructure.

This method of building a fence or fence along a river is the most widely known and followed method in the world. While this is not considered the safest method of flood adaptation, it does a good job of limiting the flow of water and will last for years, with all with a slight risk once the wall is breached. In Denmark, it is also known as the "." Although this last step makes a wall for the "constraints", giving the idea of a planar single wall running in a straight line along the riverbank, where the interaction of the walls as part of the "urban infrastructure" takes place.

The width and location of this wall comes from the historic 'sheds' used by Glasgow to store goods in the early 20th century, which in turn provides a venue for more appealing events, with a raised walkway 3.5 metres above the street offering stunning views of the river and skyline.

Flood conditions here are described as pre- and post-flood rooms for activity that embrace the river, are flooded in the future and provided to the river to allow it to expand and flow.

02 | Revitalise Glasgow

Sarah Kanaujia

Repurposing Glasgow City Union Bridge: A visionary elevated park for urban renewal with a building extension to cater to community needs.

In the heart of Glasgow, attention is drawn to a dormant plot of land next to the iconic Union Bridge, which holds the potential to breathe new life into forgotten spaces and bridge the gap between history and modernity.

This paper proposes to transform the City Union Bridge into a visionary elevated park to revitalise Glasgow's cityscape. The project seeks to honor and celebrate the city's industrial past while addressing contemporary urban issues by reimagining how underutilized infrastructure can serve local communities. It draws inspiration from the idea of adaptive reuse.

The plot adjacent to the bridge will serve as an extension of the green corridor and serve as a rest stop for users, allowing them to access the elevated park. In addition, it will serve as an infrastructure that supports the facilities provided by the elevated park.

03 | Emotional healing

The Funeral Parlour On the Hill

The project is designed for a funeral home building that focuses on emotional healing through algorithm-based perception of nature.

The research question is: how naturalistic living room architecture typologies alleviate and enhance this negative emotional experience.

In this case, Grasshopper assists in the entire process of scenario testing and iterative development of digital models.

The purpose of this project is to explore the possibilities of the future Dunhuang cultural heritage space in the context of digitalization, create a virtual world through digital means, inherit and innovate the Dunhuang cultural heritage, and hope to evoke people's cultural memories and promote cultural exchanges in the future virtual space.

The myth and story of the nine-colored deer in Dunhuang are deeply analyzed and studied from murals and animations. Through the digital medium of the virtual world, the interaction between the virtual and the real is realized, and the cultural memory and emotional changes transmitted in the virtual world are visually felt.
