Through the information released on the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 365 summarized the global avian influenza epidemic situation in April 2024, as follows:

1. One outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5 subtype in wild birds occurred in South Africa

  On 4 April, South Africa reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5 subtype in wild birds in the Western Cape, and one wild bird was infected and died.

  2. Four outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry occurred in the Philippines

  On April 4, the Philippines reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry in three places, including Leyte Island, in which 5,319 poultry were infected, 5,279 died, and 59,000 were culled.

  3. There were 13 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in wild birds in the Netherlands

  On April 4, the Netherlands reported 13 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in wild birds in four places, including Groningen Province, and 14 wild birds were infected and died.

  4. There were 12 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the mammalian H5N1 subtype in the United States

  On April 5, the United States reported 12 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the mammalian H5N1 subtype in 6 places including Kansas, with multiple dairy cows infected and 1 wild bobcat infected and died.

  On April 15, Canada reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N5 subtype in wild mammals and one in wild birds in Nova Scotia and other places, with two wild raccoons infected and two wild birds infected and killed.

  On 15 April, Canada reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5 subtype in wild birds in Alberta, in which one wild bird was infected.

  On 19 April, South Africa reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H7N6 subtype in poultry in Gordon Province, in which 600 poultry were infected and died.

Summary of the international avian influenza epidemic in April 2024

  25. Six outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N5 subtype in wild birds occurred in Japan

  On April 19, Japan reported six outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N5 subtype in wild birds in two places, including Hokkaido Prefecture, and seven wild birds were infected and died.

  26. Six outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry occurred in the United States

  On April 19, the United States reported six outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry in six places, including New Mexico, with 18,000 poultry infected and killed and 1.98 million culled.

27. One outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in wild birds occurred in Canada

  On 22 April, Canada reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in wild birds in Quebec, in which 12 free-range poultry were infected and killed and 43 were culled.

  28. Six outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the mammalian H5N1 subtype occurred in the United States

  On April 22, the United States reported six outbreaks of mammalian H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in several commercial dairy farms in Michigan and other four places, and multiple dairy cows were infected.

29. Two outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry occurred in Hungary

  On 23 April, Hungary reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry in Bekes Oblast, in which several poultry were infected.

  30. One outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry occurred in Bulgaria

  On 24 April, Bulgaria reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry in the Plovdiv region, in which 150 poultry were infected and died, and 154,000 were culled.

  On 26 April and 7 May, Brazil reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in wild birds in the state of Espírito Santo, in which two wild birds were infected and died.

  32. One outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in wild birds occurred in Slovenia

  On 26 April, Slovenia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in wild birds in the Pommêl statistical area, and one wild bird was infected and died.

  33. One outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry occurred in Hungary

  On 29 April, Hungary reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in poultry in the region of Bekes, in which several poultry were infected and died.

  34. One outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5 subtype in poultry occurred in South Africa

  On 29 April, South Africa reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5 subtype in poultry in Gordon Province, in which 300 poultry were infected and died.

  On April 29 and May 6, the United States reported 10 outbreaks of mammalian H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in five places, including Texas, in which multiple dairy cows were infected and one domestic cat, one wild skunk and two bobcats were infected and died.

  On 29 April, Germany reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype in wild birds in Hesse, and one wild bird was infected and died.
