Recently, the 4th International Forum on Refractive Surgery 2024 (IRSS 2024) was held, and Zhang Yixia, vice president of the Ophthalmology Branch of Chongqing Medical Doctor Association, expert of Chongqing Science Communication Expert Group, and executive vice president of Chongqing Nanping Aier Eye Hospital, was invited to attend the meeting and won the Outstanding Contribution Award for Science Popularization.

It is understood that the conference was hosted by Aier Eye Hospital Group and co-organized by Changsha Aier Eye Hospital, and nearly 400 ophthalmology industry experts and scholars from 9 countries gathered to promote the high-quality development of refractive surgery disciplines, clinics and technologies.

During the meeting, many experts at home and abroad and experts from Aier Eye Hospital brainstormed and continuously expanded the knowledge boundaries in the field of refractive surgery through academic research with an open mind, rigorous attitude and innovative spirit, and explored the infinite possibilities of ophthalmology in the future.
At the forum, Arthur B. Cummings, founder of the World School of Refractive Surgery and Vision Sciences, comprehensively and systematically clarified that refractive surgery is an independent discipline in terms of the benefits of refractive surgery, the biases and inspirations it has received, and the problems and challenges it faces.
"Currently, there is a severe shortage of refractive attending physicians around the world, and teaching hospitals often do not offer refractive surgery simulation training, and young doctors are not exposed to refractive surgery when they are trained." In this regard, Arthur B. Cummings said that the physician education of refractive surgery is a difficult task. It is not only about learning book knowledge, but also about constantly understanding, familiarizing, thinking and mastering new knowledge in academic exchanges, discussions and debates. In the future, with the ever-changing needs of patients for refractive surgery and the continuous development of refractive surgery technology and technology, refractive surgeons urgently need to strengthen continuing education, continue to learn professional knowledge, and skillfully use cutting-edge refractive surgery equipment.
During the meeting, international basic training courses and advanced training courses on ICL, all-photoplastic and all-femtosecond surgery were also held. It aims to enable participants to gain tangible gains in new knowledge, new technologies and new ideas, jointly promote the development and innovation of refractive surgery technology, provide higher level and more cutting-edge diagnosis and treatment technologies and diagnosis and treatment methods for the majority of myopia patients, and truly realize the sharing of global ophthalmic wisdom.

At the meeting, Zhang Yixia won the Outstanding Contribution Award for Science Popularization. Zhang Yixia said that Chongqing Nanping Aier Eye Hospital, as the Chongqing eye health science popularization base, undertakes more responsibility for science popularization, and in the future, the science popularization base will hold more and richer eye health science popularization public welfare activities to improve the public's knowledge of eye health prevention and treatment.
