On 14 May, the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024 were released.
The rankings reveal the best universities that are 50 years old or less, with Nanyang Technological University from Singapore topping the list for the second year in a row. Founded in 1991, Nanyang Technological University is also ranked 32nd in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024.
The highest Chinese mainland university is Southern University of Science and Technology, founded in 2011, and is ranked joint 24th in the world.
Shenzhen University and Yangzhou University performed well, both of which entered the world's top 100: Shenzhen University jumped from joint 87th place in the world last year to 67th place in the world this year. Yangzhou University jumped from 201-250 last year to 94th in the world.
Other mainland universities on the list include Guangzhou University, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Shantou University, Chengdu University, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, University of South China and Jianghan University.
Compared to 2023, the 2024 Times Young University Rankings have increased from 13 to 18 (1 indicator for outbound exchange students has not yet been weighted) with carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparison. The performance indicators can be grouped into five domains, namely: research quality, teaching (learning environment), research (number of papers, income and reputation), international outlook and industry income (knowledge transfer).
