Bayern Munich had reportedly offered to hire Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, but after being warned that they would need to pay €100 million (£86 million) in compensation, Bayern Munich gave up.

Thomas Tuchel is set to step down this summer and Bayern have been publicly rejected several times over the past few months, with Xavi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralph Rangnick all rejecting transfers to Bavaria.

According to Bild, the fourth coach on Bayern's shortlist is Glasner, who has been dazzling since joining Palace in February and has appealed for past Bundesliga experiences at Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bayern were prepared to pay a hefty compensation fee of €18 million (£15 million) to buy out Glasner in the final two years of his contract, but club owner Steve Parrish is said to have laughed it off and put a €100 million asking price on the manager's head.

Despite Glasner's stated intention to act, the move quickly failed. The Austrian allegedly offered Bayern a list of reasons why he was suited for the job and was eager to join a team capable of playing in the Champions League, but Parrish quickly abandoned the transfer. Hansey Flick remains a potential target for Bayern, but sporting director Max Eberle is now believed to be pushing for Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton and Hove Albion for the job.

De Zerbi has already publicly stated that he wants to stay at Brighton this summer, but Eberel continues to try to convince Bayern members of the board that the Italian's move is worth it. Alternatives are proving to be increasingly difficult to find. Benfica's Roger Schmidt and Stuttgart's Sebastian Hornes have both ruled out a move, while popular Ruben Amorim has vowed to stay at Sporting CP.
