The earliest history of the 10th column can be traced back to the Bohai Naval Region under the jurisdiction of the Shandong Military Region led by Chen Guang and Luo Shuai during the Anti-Japanese War, and the Bohai Naval Region has always been the main source of our army during the Anti-Japanese War (during the entire Liberation War, the Bohai District participated in the army with a total of 172,000 people, accounting for more than 28% of the number of soldiers in the province).
In 1945, because of the needs of the struggle, Luo Shuai from the Shandong Military Region to draw elite backbones began to break into the east of the Guandong, the East of the Tiger 6 Vertical 17th Division is based on the Bohai Naval Region main force 7th Division as the backbone, the division for the liberation of Siping, Jinzhou, Tianjin, made an important contribution, has always been the most elite main division in the East field.

The troops of the Bohai Naval Region prepared to cross the sea to the northeast

After the start of the Liberation War, the Shandong troops led by Mr. Chen formed the Shandong Field Army, and the Shandong Field Army was under the jurisdiction of the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th Divisions, of which the 7th and 11th Divisions were from the Bohai Naval Region.
In 1947, after Mr. Chen's Shanye (Shandong Field Army) and Su Yu's Huaye (Central China Field Army) were reorganized into the new Huaye (East China Field Army) in southern Jiangsu and northern Jiangsu, the main columns under the command of the two field armies also ushered in a new round of reorganization, among them, the 7th and 11th divisions that originally belonged to the Shanye Bohai Naval Region were formed into the new Huaye 10th Column, and the first commander was the tiger general Song Shilun.
If you have seen the movie "Changjin Lake", you should be no stranger to him, 3 Zhang Hanyu, who played the commander of the 9th Corps in the play at that time, was based on Song Shilun, and he was already the commander of the Corps at that time.
Song Shilun, the founder of the 10th Column, is the commander of the 9th Corps in "Changjin Lake".
Song Shilun is a native of Liling, Hunan, born in the old Red Army, and was the chief of the operations section of the First Army at the beginning, and then served as an instructor of the cadre regiment of General Chen Geng, and Song Shilun was the main participant in the operation of the 18th Army of the Civil Engineering Department of Chen Cheng that year. During the Anti-Japanese War, he served as the commander of the 120th Regiment of the 16th Division, led his troops to the north of Yanmen Pass to open up an anti-Japanese base area, and then followed Mr. Chen into the Shandong Military Region to work as the chief of staff of Shanye.
Song Shilun's conducting style is known for being steady and solid, which is an outlier in Huaye, who has always liked to fight "crazy battles".
Different from Ye Fei, Tao Yong and Wang Bicheng, these three columns have always liked to boldly intersperse clever battles like their old bosses, so Huaye's 1st, 4th, and 6th columns are particularly good at fighting "field battles".
It is also different from the 3rd, 8th and 9th columns that also come from the mountains like and are good at attacking fortifications, and the 10th column is branded with the calm and simple characteristics of Song Shilun, although such troops are not as dazzling as the main force of Huaye, but they can always be as reassuring as the Dinghai Shenpin, so that after Su Yu commanded Huaye, no matter what kind of battle, in addition to bringing 1 and 4 columns, he must bring 10 columns.
There is no other reason, it is that Su Yu, who likes to block reinforcements, trusts the 10th column who is good at defense very much.

It is said that the 10-column defense of the non-moving platoon is strong, so how strong is it?
Here, the 5th Army, the most elite of the Nationalist Army in East China, and its commander Qiu Qingquan had the most right to speak.

In May 1947, in the battle of the integrated 74th Division, one of the five main forces of the encirclement and annihilation of the National Army, Su Yu not only deployed the 1st, 4th, 6th, 8th and 9th columns as the main attack, but also placed the 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 10th columns on the periphery of Menglianggu, of which the defense of the 10th column was the most severe, and the opponent of the 10th column at that time was Qiu Qingquan's 5th Army, which was also the fifth main force.
Before this, Huaye was able to hide from Qiu Maniac's 5th Army, but at this time, in the face of this menacing enemy, Su Yu could only bite the bullet and handed over the task to Song Shilun's 10th column, at that time, the 10th column set the blocking position in the Tusikou north of Laiwu, and the interesting thing is that the national army was still defending against the attack of the 6th column in Tusikou a few months ago, and now the feng shui is turning, and it is our army's turn as the defender.
However, unlike Li Xianzhou, the 10th Column was not afraid at all in the face of the 5th Army, which was several times its size, at Tusikou, and the 29th Division, which served as the frontal defense, relied on the terrain, deployed the defense in batches, and stubbornly resisted, and dragged the 5th Army for nearly a week in the area south and east of Tusikou, ensuring that the main force could capture Meng Lianggu and encircle and annihilate Zhang Lingfu.

In order to actively respond to Liu Deng's army that leaped thousands of miles into Dabie Mountain, Huaye carried out a division of troops, and formed the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 8th, and 10th columns into an outer line corps, and actively mobilized the main force of the national army in southwest Lu to reduce the pressure on Liu Deng. In this way, the 5th Army fought with the 10th Column for the second time. But unlike the Menglianggu blocking battle, this time in the Liangshan outer line of the operation, our army is far away from the rear and the outside line does not reach the expected destination, the morale has also been somewhat affected, plus the rainy season is coming, the troops are also very tired, and if you want to drag the 2 elite armies of the national army, it is a big test for the 10th column, however. In the hearts of the 10th Column Commanders, there has never been any invincible difficulty.
Huaye at the Battle of Yangsan
With Meng Lianggu's experience in blocking, the 10th Column became handy in the construction of positions. On the one hand, in the construction of fortifications, the two divisions of the 10th Column adopted the deployment of echelon configuration and alternate operations (taking turns to enter and take over the positions). On the other hand, the cave-like fortifications invented during the Menglianggu Battle to block the entire Fifth Division were also promoted, so that all firing points could support each other.
The Liangshan Blockade was fought from August 4th to 13th, and although the casualties of the 10th Column were quite heavy in 9 days, and due to the lack of preparation of the ferry ships in the retreat, some of the people in front of the branch were stranded and captured, but it also severely damaged the 5th Army's 5 battalions, ensuring the cover of Liu Deng's army to the south and the rest and replenishment of the brother columns, and completed the task well.
After entering 1948, Huaye and Nakano also gained a firm foothold externally, when the 10th Column was also included in the command sequence of Nakano, and in April 1948, he once again followed Su Yu to start the Eastern Henan War, and once again served as the task of blocking the 5th Army in the operation to conquer Kaifeng, so that Qiu Maniac returned again.

In October 1948, the 10th Column joined the Huaihai Battlefield and showed its might again in the Xudong Resistance Battle, one of the three major blocking battles in the Liberation War.
In this battle, the 10th Column performed well on the defensive side and once again defended its title of "Huaye Shield".
In the first stage of the encirclement and annihilation of Huang Botao, Su Yu arranged three columns of blocking troops on the front line of Daxujia - the 10th column was the leading column, the 7th and 11th columns cooperated, and the troops were unified by Song Shilun. In addition to Qiu Qingquan's 2nd Corps (under the jurisdiction of the ace 5th Army) and Li Mi's 13th Corps (under the jurisdiction of the ace 8th Army), the opponent of the 10th column this time launched the most tragic Xudong resistance battle in the Huaihai Campaign.
The decisive battle between Li Yunlong and Chu Yunfei in "Bright Sword" is based on this battle, and Li Yunlong's 2nd division is also based on the 10 subordinate divisions.

At that time, the ten vertical defense was the north defense of the regimental mountain, the first line of the temple mountain, because the surrounding areas of Xuzhou are plain areas, except for a few hills and hills, there is basically no danger to defend. Considering that the opposite side was the most elite mechanized corps of the national army, Song Shilun commented on Qiu Qingquan's 2nd Corps, an old acquaintance in front of him: "When the enemy attacks, it is good at concentrating its artillery fire and troops, and mostly adopts a wide frontal and focused attack. Concentrate artillery fire in the direction of the main attack, and concentrate tanks and infantry to attack a point. Break through a little bit and consolidate a little bit, and then stretch. ”
For this reason, Song Shilun, who was good at mobile defense, adjusted his troops, proposed a focused defense, concentrated his limited forces and firepower on a few core fortifications, built a deep defensive position, and blocked the enemy layer by layer, and at the same time ordered the divisions under each column to be equipped with a sufficient number of mobile reserves, and to hide in trenches and bunkers before the enemy's artillery fire was prepared. When the enemy infantry advanced to a distance of 200 meters from our position, the artillery fire stopped, and the troops again entered the preset position, blocking the enemy's advance path with heavy fire from two flanks.

On November 12, the Nationalist Army officially launched an attack on all fronts. The 8th Army of Li Mi's Corps attacked Sishan Pass and Tuanshan Mountain. The 10th and 28th Divisions of the 10th Column fought hard to block the attack, and one battalion repelled 12 enemy attacks in one day, and some companies relied on bayonets and stones to fight the enemy and hold their positions with casualties and ammunition exhausted.
At dawn on November 13, the enemy attacked our army again under the cover of aircraft and heavy artillery, and some positions were bombarded into a sea of fire, and the 10th column had to withdraw from the first-line position, but relied on the second-line position to continue to fight hand-to-hand with the national army, and took advantage of its characteristics of not being good at night fighting to recapture the position lost during the day.
The 14th was the most intense day of the battle, and the focus of the 10th Vertical Blockade Battle was on the south bank of the canal, and in the early morning, Song Shilun also made a special call to the commander of the 1st Battalion, Song Jialie
"Your position is very important, and your task is arduous and glorious. You want people to be in the position, and you will resolutely fight for every inch of the enemy's territory!"
After receiving the order, the battalion immediately mobilized for defensive tasks, and the 1st company relied on favorable terrain to block layers of attacks, and killed more than 100 enemies in the mobile defense. The 3rd company guarding the front position of Jietaizi also calmly responded to the attack of the enemy's 2 battalions, repelled 2 group charges, and used cigarette shells and explosives bags to blast the national tanks one by one, and fought to the most critical moment, even the cooks in the company kept up with the battle, and after the whole battle, the company of more than 100 people, there were more than 20 wounded soldiers left, but they held on to Jietai for a whole day, eliminating more than 600 enemy soldiers.
In this battle, many people in the company were awarded the title of first-class and second-class combat heroes.

In the three-day offensive, Qiu Qingquan and Li Mi's 2 corps attacked for three days, and only advanced less than 20 miles.

Of course, because every village stronghold had to go through repeated battles, the casualties of the 10th column were also very large, and after reaching the scheduled blocking task, they evacuated their positions in an orderly manner, and Du Yuming and Qiu Qingquan, in order to exonerate themselves, actually said that it was "Xu Dong's great victory", which led to Lao Jiang's over-optimism about the situation and the final defeat of Huaihai.

After a short break, the 10th Column of the Xudong Resistance Battle directly joined the operation of chasing and annihilating Du Yuming's group.
It is still the most familiar opponent, and it is still the most difficult blocking task.
In order to cut off Du Yuming's inevitable way to escape, the 10th Column held the strategic point of Lulou Village, and in the 6-day blocking battle, the 10th Column blocked the final counterattack of Qiu Qingquan's 2nd Corps, and directly blocked Qiu Qingquan in Chenguanzhuang, so that the enemy 96th Division Commander Deng Junlin recalled
The battle ended with Qiu Qingquan's stubborn pressure and at great cost. The troops' spirit of attack has been weakened, and when they hear about the attack mission, the officers and men feel panic and uneasy."
