Recently, the Chuanshan District Branch of the Suining Municipal Public Security Bureau solved a murder case that had been in the dust for 22 years.
At the end of 2023, the Chuanshan District Branch of the Municipal Public Security Bureau cracked a criminal case and captured a fugitive involved in multiple robberies and vicious cases from outside the province. In handling the criminal case, the investigators noticed that the details of the fugitive's behavior were "familiar", but they did not expect that the subsequent investigation work would uncover the fog of a 22-year-old criminal case.
At about 8 p.m. on March 28, 2002, the Central District Branch of the Suining Municipal Public Security Bureau (now the Chuanshan District Branch of the Municipal Public Security Bureau) received a report from the public that a female conductor in Wolongshan Park was missing. At about 21 o'clock, the police found a female corpse with multiple knife wounds in the bamboo forest more than 700 meters away from Dongshan Gate in Wolongshan Park. It was confirmed that it was the missing woman (23 years old at the time, formerly from Xining Township, Central District, Shizhong). The police found the woman's handbag that had been ripped open nearby, and judged that the woman was killed during the robbery.
On the night of the incident, the public security organs at the city and district levels activated the homicide investigation mechanism and set up a special case team to carry out the investigation. Due to the fact that mobile phones and security monitoring were not popularized at that time, and the forensic technology for the detection of biological samples such as extracted dander, body fluids, and hair was not yet mature, although the criminal technology police restored the perpetrator and the victim's resistance to a large extent through detailed investigation work, but the perpetrator has not been able to be determined. The task force sorted out more than 70 people who may have passed through here during the time period of the crime, and examined them one by one. At the same time, the police on the case squatted at the scene of the crime and carried out an investigation that lasted more than three months, but no effective clues were obtained that could confirm the identity of the suspect, resulting in the case being unsolved for many years.
Over the past 22 years, the people's police officers who have participated in the investigation have changed batch after batch and stubble after stubble, but their determination to crack the backlog of cases has never wavered. Every year, the Chuanshan police will open the yellowed case files, hoping to find clues.
In March this year, the special police again analyzed the case 22 years ago, and found that the modus operandi, knife handling habits, and details of the behavior of a fugitive arrested at the end of last year were very similar to the suspect in the "2002.3.28 murder case", and even coincided. Brought into the case, the subtle physical evidence and clues collected by the investigators bit by bit were confirmed one by one, and the fog of 22 years was finally revealed.
Faced with a series of evidence, the suspect Qin (male, 42 years old, from Chuanshan District) confessed to the crime that year.
At about 11 o'clock on March 28, 2002, Qin climbed over the wall and entered Wolongshan Park, hid in the bamboo forest near Dongshan Gate, and waited for an opportunity to rob passers-by. At about 12 o'clock, Qin saw a woman with a handbag passing by on the side of the road, and after observing that there were no other passers-by before and after, he immediately rushed out to grab the bag. In the process of pulling the handbags between the two parties, Qin took out the dagger he was carrying and stabbed the woman in the chest and ribs continuously. Subsequently, Qin dragged the woman into the bamboo forest and snatched the cash and a gold ring from the bag.
