Karamay is a prefecture-level city in Xinjiang, located in the western part of the Junggar Basin, an important national petroleum and petrochemical base, with a per capita GDP of more than 240,000 yuan.
Karamay Oilfield is the first large oilfield to be explored and developed after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The entire oil area is 150 kilometers long from south to north, hence the name "Baili Oil Area", and the crude oil production accounts for 60% of the total output of Xinjiang oilfields. Climb the viewing platform of the 100-mile oil area and look out, the derrick is endless, and the oil pipeline stretches for 100 miles. It is said that for more than 60 years, the pumping engines on the Gobi Desert have been swinging day and night, and the oil refinery towers have been brightly lit.
First there is the Black Oil Mountain, and then there is the Oil City. After visiting the No. 1 well in Kra, we went to visit the Black Oil Mountain Scenic Area.
Located two kilometers northeast of Karamay, the visitor reception center at the entrance of the park is uniquely designed in the shape of an oil tank. Walk through the "can" for a moment of shade, then step into the sunshine again and walk on the road to the Black Oil Mountain. On the side of the road, there are retired "kowtow machines" and discarded tires more than one person high, all painted with bright colors, full of industrial art, and a strong atmosphere of oil culture

Black Oil Mountain is not high, only 13 meters, more precisely, it should be a mound, climb the steps, dozens of steps have reached the top. The Black Oil Mountain is also not large, with an area of only 0.2 square kilometers. But don't let that underestimate the Black Oil Mountain, what we see here is a geological wonder that has only been found in two places on Earth.
Due to the change of the earth's crust, the underground oil is affected by the formation pressure, and continues to seep out to the surface along the rock cracks, the light part of the oil volatilizes, and the remaining thick liquid condenses with the sand to form the black oil mountain. The city of Karamay is named after the oil field, and the name of the Karamay oil field is derived from the Black Oil Mountain, because in the Uyghur language, "Karamay" means "black oil".
The entire hill at your foot is grayish-black and is made up of oil-impregnated sandstone or oil-condensed conglomerate. At the top of the hill, there is a pyramid-shaped granite stone tablet, which is engraved with three big characters of "Black Oil Mountain".
There are many oil pools scattered around the stele, which are formed by the overflow of oil springs. Each oil pool is about two or three square meters in size, and its shape is irregular, and the rocks used as shelter by the poolside are intertwined, and they are all dyed deep black by the oil. The puddle of oil in the oil pool is viscous, black and bright, and the oil bubbles continue to gush out and disappear immediately.
What's even more interesting is that the ground around the oil pool is as soft as dough, and the number of bubbles varies depending on the frequency of the bounce and the strength of the landing. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Black Oil Mountain and its nearby area were called Qingshi Gorge, and the literature recorded the oil production situation here: the Black Oil Mountain of Qingshi Gorge is the largest with a spring on the top of the mountain, and 200 tens of catties can be taken every day when the oil is prosperous. In the early days of liberation, an old Uyghur named Sailim often came here to collect crude oil, and then transported it to nearby areas with a donkey in exchange for daily necessities, which provided an important clue for the large-scale development of the Karamay oil field. In order to commemorate the old man Sailim, on October 1, 1982, a statue of an old Uyghur man riding a donkey and playing Rewapu was erected in Heiyou Mountain
