According to media reports on the island, the KMT's legislature unanimously decided not to attend Lai Ching-te's inauguration ceremony on the grounds that it was a Monday, and the main duty of the people's deputies was to do their job well and serve the people. Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun finally received the invitation, but did not respond positively whether he would attend, stressing that the DPP has used "destructive" methods to maliciously attack the KMT in the past few months. The cooperation of the ruling and opposition parties on the island will not depend on whether or not they attend the inauguration ceremony, and the key focus is whether the DPP authorities are sincere in bringing Taiwan's politics toward a virtuous circle.
In addition to important figures from the Kuomintang and the People's Party, the governors of important counties and cities also received invitations. Taichung Mayor Lu Xiuyan and Deputy Head of the Legislature Jiang Qichen have announced that they will take a leave of absence to attend Lai's inauguration. Taoyuan Mayor Zhang Shanzheng said that he would participate in the general questioning, so he would not participate. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Qimai said that priority should be given to the general inquiry of the parliament, and whether to attend depends on the coordination of the parliament. New Taipei Mayor Hou Youyi hinted that he would not attend, saying that he was busy with municipal official business, and even if he could not attend, he would send blessings to Lai Qingde.
It is worth noting that Taipei Mayor Jiang Wanan previously indicated that he had received the invitation letter, but he had another municipal itinerary that day, so he could not participate. But after Zhu Lilun said that he had received the invitation letter, Jiang Wanan suddenly changed his tune in an interview, saying that he would contact his colleagues to see if he could adjust the municipal itinerary, and if he could, he would attend Lai Qingde's inauguration. He hoped that the Lai Ching-tak administration would be able to implement smoothly in the future and respond more directly to the expectations of the people.
At present, when facing its biggest opponent, the Kuomintang still has its own thoughts and scattered sand, and it is difficult to reach an agreement on whether or not to support Lai Qingde. Just as Zhu Lilun said, the Kuomintang has been showing goodwill to the DPP, and if the DPP does not open its heart and continues to maliciously smear and destroy the KMT, or even file a complaint or dismiss it, even if the KMT members go to the inauguration ceremony, there is no way for the two parties to reconcile. He called on Lai Qingde to respond positively to the expectations of society. However, Zhu Lilun obviously couldn't command some people in the party, which made the DPP see a joke.
As for some important members of the Kuomintang not to attend Lai Qingde's inauguration ceremony, the DPP and the People's Party are all yin and yang there. Generally speaking, according to the convention, the person who loses the leadership election will not appear at the inauguration ceremony of the winner, so it is in line with the practice that Hou Youyi does not go. Ke Wenzhe, who said that he would attend, was the second unsuccessful candidate to attend the inauguration ceremony after James Soong. Not only that, Ke Wenzhe had said not to go before, but now that he wants to go, the people who start to say that he can't go are "not popular enough", which is really a bit of a double standard.
Wu Siyao, secretary of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), said that during the same period of the legislature's agenda, the KMT's public opinion representatives first went to the mainland and then to Taiping Island, but now they are not even willing to go to Kaida Grand Avenue, which is only a few streets away. However, Ke Zhien, a representative of the Kuomintang public opinion, counterattacked and said that there is no need to have anything to do with other things whether or not to go to Lai Qingde's inauguration, and the DPP's sarcasm will only make people feel that this inauguration ceremony has too much political color and does not show "democratic thickness".
As the second largest party on the island, the Kuomintang needs to fulfill its duty of supervising the DPP, and if the KMT cannot unite as one, it will only allow the DPP to take advantage of loopholes.
