A few days ago, after months of estrangement from each other, Armenia finally couldn't help it, and on the occasion of Putin's re-election, the country's Prime Minister Pashinyan ran to Russia in a hurry, and the leaders of the two countries held talks.
It is known that Armenia is a traditional ally of Russia. Previously, Armenia and Azerbaijan exchanged fire in the border area, which led to particularly tense tensions in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, however, Russia ignored this and did not fully support Armenia, which disappointed them, so they questioned Putin, believing that Putin could not protect them from Azerbaijani aggression, and in a fit of anger, Armenia broke with Moscow, ending the decades-long partnership between the two sides.
Interestingly, after Armenia unilaterally announced the "severance of diplomatic relations" with Russia, it became more and more active, and even began to move closer to the West in order to demonstrate its determination to "deviate" from Russia. Last year, Armenia, in cooperation with the United States, held a joint military exercise right under Russia's nose. Although the scale of the exercise is not large, the United States can provoke trouble in Russia's "backyard" before the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which shows that Armenia has been dissatisfied with Russia for a long time.
Not long ago, Armenia also sent an official letter to Russia, prohibiting the Russian army from continuing to carry out its tasks at the airport near their capital Yerevan. Then, Armenia turned around and expressed its desire to "join the European Union." At that time, the Armenian foreign minister said that given what happened in the past few years, they needed to develop new possibilities, including accession to the European Union. To put it simply, Russia can't protect them, so they look for an organization that can devote themselves wholeheartedly to Armenia. Armenia is like a child, he must be an adult towards him, and if the adult is not on his side, he will make a fuss and force Russia to make a statement.
Sure enough, Armenia's actions quickly attracted the attention of Russia. Since Armenia has chosen to betray its allies in exchange for a new future, Russia has also disregarded the old feelings and directly announced cooperation with Azerbaijan. Previously, Azerbaijan was Armenia's sworn enemy, but now the cooperation between the two sides has directly given Armenia a deterrent, and it will no longer dare to act rashly.
More importantly, Armenia's foreign policy has often changed course, leading to the country's increasing marginalization in international affairs, and the country's hardline attitude on the one hand, and its own low voice on the other, has forced Armenia to re-examine its position and choices, and if it continues to insist on going its own way, it will not be very friendly to the future of the country.
It can be said that Russian-Asian relations are constantly being cut and being chaotic. Although Armenia wants to get closer to the United States, it cannot cut off relations with Russia, and once it goes too far, when the Russian-Ukrainian conflict ends, the next gun will be aimed at them. Therefore, Putin has just been re-elected, and taking advantage of the opportunity of the Eurasian Economic Union summit, Pashinyan rushed to Moscow to actively ease bilateral relations and strive to seek economic cooperation.
