For example, in 2024, Lian Yuming, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and founding president of the Beijing International Institute of Urban Development, mentioned raising rural pensions. He suggested that a nationwide unified increase in farmers' pensions should be launched, and on the existing basis, at least 100 yuan per person per month should be raised. Lian Yuming believes that as China's economy continues to rise, farmers' pensions also need to keep up with the pace of economic growth. At the same time, he also suggested strengthening the mechanism for the growth of farmers' pensions to ensure that the growth of farmers' pensions is not lower than the growth rate of the annual per capita disposable income of rural residents.
However, for the increase of rural pensions, many people think it is a good thing, after all, the gap between urban and rural pensions is too big, the difference is more than 20 times. But there are also some people who think that farmers should not be given pensions, they think that farmers do not pay social security, and raising rural pensions is "eating white food", in fact, many people do not agree with this view. For farmers, raising pensions is "very urgent" for the following reasons:
1. Many young people in rural areas have not been allocated land after birth, so they cannot rely on land to support their old age
Many people say that rural people rely on land for their old age, but you ignore one point, that is, many young people in rural areas have not been allocated land since they were born and have children themselves. If you don't have land, you can't rely on land for retirement.
At present, in many rural families, only the older generation has been allocated contracted land, and two generations have no contracted land, which has led to a family of seven or eight people of three generations to jointly cultivate these acres of land, and some families even have only one acre and three points of land. Therefore, according to the current standard of living, it is very difficult to raise a few people by planting this. Therefore, it is very urgent to increase the pension, even if it is raised to 500 yuan on the original basis, it can also solve some practical problems.
2. The income from farming is not as high as imagined
Many people have never farmed and think that farming is very profitable now, they don't have to pay taxes, and they still have subsidies to get. However, we need to know that when we plant one acre of wheat, we will not have much money left after removing seeds, fertilizers, agricultural proverbs, and mobile fees. If you can have a net profit of 500 yuan, that is, a relatively high-yield plot, and only 5,000 yuan can make a profit of 5,000 yuan if you plant 10 acres of land, but how many families in the countryside can have 10 acres of land? But don't forget, farming depends on God's food, and drought and flood may make you busy for a year this year.
Therefore, it is very difficult for peasants to pay a pension of several thousand yuan a year by farming, and it is also unrealistic. In fact, it is very difficult for farmers to pay 380 yuan a year for the NCMS, and some families even need to borrow money to pay it. Therefore, it is also more urgent to increase rural pensions.
3. The children are working outside the home and can't take care of it
After the birth of children in rural areas, there is no land, and the little land that their parents have cannot meet the needs of the family's increasing population, so they can only go out to work. However, the salary of ordinary urban workers is not high, more than 3,000 yuan a month, and it is difficult to support yourself, let alone take care of your parents. Those who are more capable can send some money and mail things to their families, and those who are less capable can send nothing and do not mail anything, and some even need the help of their parents.
Moreover, the jobs of young people are not so stable, the wages are not high, and they are not in a position to pay pension insurance for themselves, and the pressure of life in their later years is also obvious, and their old age may not be as secure as the retirees of these state-owned enterprises.
