Lu Yifei: Words are good when drawn, and paintings are wonderful when written

Lu is not a person, the name is in the feather, the word is not a Weng, and the name is Chonglan Thatched Cottage. Learn flower and bird painting from Li Xishan. At the beginning of 1931, he was introduced by Zhu Qizhan to Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts as a teaching assistant for 15 years, and also served as a teacher at Xinhua Art College and Suzhou Art College. In 1937, he held a personal exhibition in Shanghai, during which he was able to see the ancient paintings collected by his brother-in-law Sun Boyuan, and copied them under the guidance of Zhang Daqian. Later, he worshiped Wu Hufan as his teacher, and participated in the "Meijing Book House" painting exhibition three times. In 1956, he served as one of the first batch of painters at the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy. In the early 60s, he was hired by President Pan Tianshou as a professor at Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts.

Lu is not good at painting flowers and birds, especially peonies. Mr. Lu Yifei is a master of flower and bird painting, and a master of calligraphy, and more importantly, he is also a calligraphy and painting scholar who understands the theory of painting, tries to open up calligraphy, painting, poetry and other art categories, and has superhuman attainments in terms of knowledge.

Mr. Lu Yifei was well-known in the Shanghai art world in his early years. Regardless of the fact that the flower and bird paintings at that time were known as the "Four Great Flowers", even in the entire maritime painting world, his pure Yun Nantian-style part-time work with flowers and birds was also unique, extraordinary in skill, elegant and elegant in style, and his purity was recognized by all the flower and bird painters at that time, such as Jiang Hanting, Tang Yun, Zhang Dazhuang and others.

In fact, among the "Four Great Flowers" in the maritime painting world at that time, Tang Yun, Jiang Hanting, and Zhang Dazhuang were not known for their calligraphy - the small brushstrokes written by part-time workers would have an innate sense of distance from calligraphy brushwork. Jiang Hanting and Zhang Dazhuang have first-class inscriptions, but they rarely do calligraphy independently; Tang Yun often writes calligraphy, but in the calligraphy world, he is still "different" and "alternative". Compared with Wang Gequan, Lai Chusheng and others, who were also in Shanghai at that time, they were both good at painting and calligraphy, of course, they were of a different type.

Lu Yifei should not have been out of this. But unexpectedly, he actually has profound skills in calligraphy, and in his middle and late years, he was out of control, creating a large number of calligraphy works, almost as a famous calligrapher. Such a technical orientation has significantly distanced him from the other three of the "Four Great Flowers".

"Words are good when drawn, and paintings are wonderful when written"

In the process of alternating between the old and the new, Mr. Lu Yifei began to try to use calligraphy to incorporate calligraphy into his paintings, or as he said, "painting is the beauty of writing". But his approach is obviously different from Wu Changshuo and Zhao Zhiqian. Wu and Zhao are good at calligraphy first, and then use books to paint, so they have a "preconceived idea" of calligraphy style, and the personality of painting is very strong, and of course, the stronger the "program". Lu Yifei is completely different from Wu and Zhao's methods. He did not start with calligraphy, but started from the pictograms of the corresponding objects in painting, and established his own very systematic and complete language system of painting images, colors, and brushwork, forming a clear "Lu Peony" style of "Lu Family Style". From there, he introduced calligraphy into his paintings with his outstanding calligraphy skills, so that even if he made a large handwriting, his shape was extremely accurate without the vague and specious "timidity".
