In the ancient Xia Dynasty, there was a king named Xia Ji, who was famous for his bravery and wisdom. Legend has it that he was able to straighten his crooked iron rod, dive into the water to conquer dragons, and even fight tigers with his bare hands. However, this once formidable king was eventually reduced to a tyrant who was resentful of the people.
Xia Wei's tyranny began with his extreme pursuit of power and pleasure. He built countless lavish palaces and depleted the wealth of the people. In order to suppress domestic discontent and plunder more wealth, he frequently waged wars, plunging the entire country into turmoil. The people lived in fear and suffering, and they cursed Xia Ji to die soon, hoping to be free from the tyrant's rule.
However, Xia Wei's fall did not stop. When he met the beautiful and bewitching Meixi, his desire was pushed to the extreme. In order to please his sister, he did not hesitate to spend huge manpower and material resources to build a large-scale Qionggong Yaotai. The palace is extravagant, with nine pillars made of gold alone. However, in Meixi's eyes, the palace still can't match her bewitchment.
So, Meixi came up with an astonishing suggestion: build a wine pond meat forest for the palace ladies to enjoy themselves. When Xia Wei heard this, he immediately applauded and ordered the construction to begin. Workers dug up a huge pond and poured a large amount of fine wine into it. At the same time, they used the sediment used to dig the pond to build rockeries, and hung slices of meat on the rockeries. In this way, the huge project of "Jiuchi Meat Forest" was completed.
Xia Wei and Meixi enjoy themselves in this wine pond meat forest every day. They took a dragon boat on the pond and watched thousands of palace maids dancing and singing by the pool. Whenever the drums sounded, the ladies scrambled to drink in the wine pools or run into the woods to bite the dried meat hanging from the trees. This cruel way of pleasure exhausted the palace maids, and some even died because of it, but Xia Jian and Meixi enjoyed it.
However, this extravagant spending has also gradually emptied the already abundant treasury. In order to make up for these shortfalls, Xia Jian began to constantly crusade the Quartet and wantonly plunder the wealth of others. As a result, the people of the whole country were plunged into misery, and they were forced to fight or serve in labor by men, women, and children. Many were seriously ill due to hunger, fatigue and malnutrition, but the officials refused to let up and persecute them. When even the whip could not drive the people to work, the officials resorted to even more cruel punishments to persecute the people.
Under this cruel rule, a minister named Guan Longfeng once risked his life to admonish Xia Wei in the hope that he would repent of his actions, but Xia Wei was so angry that he imprisoned him and eventually killed him. This move caused more dissatisfaction and revolt among people, including Xia Fangbo Shangtang, who specialized in the conquest. Shang Tang was very sorry when he learned that Guan Longfeng had been killed, and sent people to cry to show his condolences. This angered Xia Wei, and he ordered Shang Tang to be imprisoned in Xia Tai. However, Shang Tang managed to escape, and with the assistance of the virtuous minister Yin Yi, he finally overthrew Xia Wei's tyranny, ending this era of absurdity and immorality.
