Garnett: MVP is a regular season award, the best player on the best team to win, Alexander deserves it

Kevin Garnett reveals why the Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander should win the MVP award over Nikola Jokic, which makes sense.

Nikola Jokic won the MVP award for the third time after another exceptionally stellar season, however, many believe that Shay Gilgeous-Alexander deserves the award even more.

NBA legend Kevin Garnett is one of them, explaining why the Oklahoma City Thunder star should win the MVP award than Jokic.

Kevin Garnett and Paul Pearce discussed the MVP award on the All the Smoke Podcast, and the Hall of Fame power forward selected Gilgeous-Alexander as his award winner.

"MVP is a regular-season award that usually... The best player on your team usually represents the best team... I think Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander] deserves [MVP], not Jokic. ”

Nikola Jokic won the award with averaging 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds and 9.0 assists per game, and the Denver Nuggets star has been averaging almost a triple-double this season, making it difficult to pick another player, especially one of the most efficient players in the league like Jokic.

Shay Gilgeous-Alexander, meanwhile, is averaging 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists this season. In addition, Gilgeous Alexander also led the Thunder to the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

One thing to say, Alexander's Thunder are indeed ranked better than Jokic's Nuggets, and this should indeed be taken into account.

No matter how you look at it, the MVP race seems to have been between Nikola Jokic and Shay Gilgeous-Alexander for most of the regular season.

Both players are superstars of their own and it will be exciting to see where they develop in the future. Luckily, the Thunder star still has one more chance to win the MVP, as he's only 25 years old.

However, if Alexander starts winning the regular season MVP this season, he may set an all-time record or something, such as winning five MVPs in a row or something.

The Thunder have a good chance of winning the title, and the Oklahoma City Thunder are currently tied 1-1 with the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the NBA playoffs.

In the regular season, the Thunder look like one of the strongest teams in the league, but they still have some work to do if they hope to win a championship. The Mavericks didn't throw in easily, because Game 3 won't be easy.

The Thunder must find a way to beat Dallas to advance to the next round, and for that, the team must limit Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, which is easier said than done.

In addition, players like Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams must be consistent and serve as a complement to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

If the Thunder can beat the Mavericks, then they will face either the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Denver Nuggets. Either way, the Western Conference game is going to be a lot of fun, as every team that is still in the playoffs has the potential to win the championship.

With that said, let's expect the Thunder to give it their all in Game 3. It was a crucial match, with the winner taking a 2-1 lead in the series.

If Alexander really deserves the MVP, then lead the team to a 4-1 elimination of the Mavericks, so that even if Garnett is not blind.
