"Hydrology is a discipline that studies the water cycle and water movement in nature. In view of the special geographical location of Chongming, we monitor the hydrological elements such as tide level, rainfall, evaporation, air pressure, wind speed, wind direction, water temperature, etc., to provide decision-making basis for flood control, water resource dispatch, and ecological water level guarantee in the three islands of Chongming. The Chongxi Gate Water Level Station in Lvhua Town, Chongming, is located on the Yangtze River. The water level station has a 100-square-meter hydrometeorological observation field, and the rain gauge and evaporator equipment in the field can automatically collect hydrometeorological elements such as precipitation and evaporation. The staff of the district hydrological station skillfully disassembled the rain gauge equipment, connected it to the professional tipping bucket rain sensor calibrator, took 10 ml of water with a measuring cylinder, and prepared to test the accuracy of the rain gauge data collection and the smoothness of the communication channel through the drip test.
"We first set the rain intensity mode, by injecting 10 milliliters of water, to see how many times this white tipping bucket will flip under the action of simulating rain intensity, each flip means that there is 0.5 milliliters of rainfall, and the instrument will send a signal to the background system of the water sub-center of our hydrological station. Each rain gauge tests three sets of data. At the end of the field test, the staff will contact the background of the sub-center through the radio intercom to confirm whether the on-site water injection is consistent with the background monitoring data, so as to test the accuracy of the data collection of the rain gauge equipment and the smoothness of the communication channel.
Subsequently, the staff immediately devoted themselves to the level verification work. Starting from the national basic level point of the Chongxi Gate Water Level Station, the water gauge is led all the way to the water level observation pavilion by the Yangtze River, and the accuracy of the water level measurement is ensured by checking the water gauge. The "water gauge" closely related to water level measurement is set up on the side of the water level observation booth, and the real function of the water level observation booth is to dynamically monitor and transmit the tide level data of the Yangtze River 24 hours a day.

"The RTU and DTU devices in the kiosk are responsible for the acquisition and transmission of data, respectively." Chen Peng, chief of the test equipment section of the district hydrological station, told reporters that sometimes the parameters are not right, which will affect the integrity and continuity of data collection, and system crashes, lightning and other may affect the equipment collection and transmission of data, so it is necessary to have a regular "physical examination". The on-site staff used computers to check and review to ensure that the data every 5 minutes can be transmitted continuously, completely and accurately to the Shanghai Flood Control Automatic Monitoring and Reporting System of the Water Situation Sub-center of the District Hydrological Station.
The 5 hydrological national basic stations and 58 flood control stations in the three islands of Chongming are distributed along the rivers like "tentacles", observing and collecting hydrological and meteorological data of rivers, lakes, reservoirs and other water bodies in real time, and transmitting them to the "Shanghai Flood Control Automatic Monitoring and Reporting System", which is a "smart brain". These data can provide an important scientific basis for the government's decision-making on flood prevention and typhoon prevention and the safety needs of water-related units.
"The flood season from June to September is usually a period when storm surge disasters occur frequently in Chongming, and flood control and typhoon prevention is one of the important tasks of the whole region." Zhuang Yi said that at present, the district hydrological station has carefully inspected the maintenance and management of all station facilities and equipment, identification signs, and test environments one by one, and will continue to improve the emergency plan, and carry out flood control and Taiwan hydrological emergency drills, and go all out to ensure hydrological safety during the flood.
